Just finished a third proper listen with my phones and I must say, this album sounds big. Big guitars and big drums. Great writing, arranging, and kickass performances.

Trick Without a Sleeve would have fit beautifully anywhere in Kings X's first five albums. Just a gorgeous, gorgeous piece. Give me big crunch-laden melody any day of the week folks. My goosebumps still have goosebumps. Time Slowing Down & Centipede gave me the same reaction, and based upon this, I think it's HIGH time I dig into some Kyuss and Masters of Reality due to the Chris Goss/Joshua Homme connection here. Fkn sublime.

Mantra completely slays me as well with Homme on big fuzz bass, Grohl on vocals/drums, and Reznor on keys and tech.

Its amazing that, despite the array of performers and writers (well, ok, Grohl is the common thread in this regard), this thing really flows as one cohesive offering. You know you've accomplished something when even the resurrected Rick Springfield and Stevie Nicks display an urgency in their performances not seen in decades. With that said, Grohl might just be the Tarantino of rock!

For me, this puppy really delivers the goods and I predict it will be a tough one to top in 2013. Fans of guitar driven straight-up rock n roll should take notice.

Great stuff for sure - I need to absorb it all over again this weekend.

Candle in the window for PD.
