Wazoo rumour spread by some bozo who had just spoken to the Vaultmeister and claimed to report that conversation... (I never learn, do I ?) Although the VM did announce some sort of Wazoo box set some time ago.

But what of this Hot Rats anniversary mention? An intriguing thought...

^It means that 1969 was 50 years ago.
Anything else is speculation at this point.

And yet 1988 was a million years ago.

To my surprise, found the 3CD set at a very reasonable price (18 euros) on the Champs-Elysées today, so I bought it. Listening now.

I took the opportunity of amending the list of players on the album's Wikipedia page, which revealed some surprises (at least to me), like the fact that Ian Underwood is one of the three keyboard players. Lots of other familiar names, from the Petit/Grand Wazoo ensembles, too.

Ulrich's book lists the keyboardists from the concert as Mike Lang, Ralph Grierson and Bill Mays, although it mentions Ian Underwood may have been in the rehearsals and/or sessions. I don't have the CD yet, so I don't know if it has additional evidence about it.

The list comes with a caveat that the list is possibly incomplete and was reconstructed to the best of the compilers' knowledge. Bill Mays is also credited, but only for Clavinet.

Seeing this show up on a lot of people's social media posts today. Mine from Amazon Canada got pushed back a week for an unexplained reason.

Sorry to hear about the delays.

My copy is supposed to arrive today, hopefully. Really looking forward to hearing it...

Mine's playing right now. I don't recall liking this album as much as I'm enjoying it right now. I wonder who the pianist is on Strictly Genteel? In the days when the records were devoid of credits, I'd always imagined it might be George Duke. I guess not.

I managed to rip the cardboard already. I hate these folded cardboard things where the disc has to be removed at the opening near the spine.

My copy arrived today. I've never been a big fan of Frank's orchestral albums, but the live show has changed me. The music is great and the sound quality is phenomenal!

This one will be in heavy rotation for a while. I am really enjoying this release far more than I expected

You found it a la FNAC /CE ? Chez Gibert it was at 33 Euros.

Yeah, still can't believe my luck ! Must be a pricing mistake I guess ? Surprised that Gibert don't sell it at reduced "new release" price, though.

A question: are there any (significant) differences on the versions of the songs that appear twice on this record?

33 Euros is the novelty reduced price :-)

I'm not convinced Underwood is there...at least for the concert. Frank name checks Mike and Ralph at various points during the show, and Bill can clearly be seen at the Clavinet in the pictures. And Frank says "for three keyboards" in the intro speech for Bogus Pomp. Can't see Underwood in any of the photos either. I WISH he was there...would be cool! So, maybe he was helping out behind the scenes??

It's a great show. The atmosphere is fun and, considering how difficult the stuff is, the performances are pretty amazing too. Only Dog Breath felt a little off to me...and Greggery Peccary is not bad at all despite the on stage warning of it being shaky. I love that Frank makes them redo a section live on stage

    Matt.
