I think there's a valid argument that the highpoints of Moving Waves and Focus III are higher, but this seems a more even album overall.

That clip was for a BBC In Concert. They were a popular band in the UK and made various TV/radio appearances here- Live At The Rainbow was actually broadcast by the BBC on TV show The Old Grey Whistle Test. This is the show perceived to have launched them in the UK after a studio performance of 'Hocus Pocus'.

Hamburger Concerto could be worse but it has too much velveeta in it. Moving Waves holds up a lot better imo. This track along w/ Sneezing Bull from the often maligned Con Proby record (which is far from being a consistent album) are less cringeworthy than most of HC.

After giving all three a spin over the past few days, I think this is where I come down as well. There's not much on Hamburger that I don't like, whereas there's some from both the other albums that I think could easily be trimmed; though they have wonderful high points as well.

Me too. I dig Moving Waves and 3 too, but there's something about HC that makes it really stand out for me.

    mmmhhh!!!......

I've already got the Master from the Vault thingie, but I wouldn't mind having both HC version on DVD as well (never seen either version until now)

I only wished that they'd have released Live at the Rainbow as a double (or triple) album after Hamburger Concerto was released, because I feel many disregard HC, because it came after the Rainbow gig release

As about time that someone posted some love for this album, it's a prog essential in my book and it's terribly overlooked.

    Horrible, IMO

I liked the other video, though.

As for the later stuff, I'll only retain Ship Of Memories, which is surprisingly good for a "bottom-of-drawers" scrapping sessions... the rest (Mother, Con Proby and the new albums don't do anyhting for me - MF being a real turd in my book. <snip>
Both MW and F3 could've used a bit more "conciseness"
as a fan who owns every single album Focus (and Jan and Thijs) ever recorded, the above comments are pretty solid... though I like a lot of the newer, post 2000 albums ok, they just seem a bit tame compared to the classics
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

He did, but that was backstage in good company.

^ He needs to be in better company, seeing as he looks really rabid when yodling on stage with his mere half-mates.

I remember buying his Introspection box hoping there'd be long sequencing of yodling. Boy, was I ever dissed. There was this huge booklet, but only one vinyl plate and no yodling to be heard anywhere in hight.

    Hi Folks ~

I have always enjoyed Hamburger Concerto tremendously. Brought the disc with me on a recent road trip, hadn't listened to it for some time, and I confirmed the feeling that it just pulls so much 'musical emotion' out of me. Seriously makes me teary eyed!

Thanks for the OT, the live clips, and the discussion.
