    The Oscars

They should have Oscar Pistorius on the Oscars tonight, being interviewed by Nancy Grace.

Then I might watch the Oscars instead of Spring Training baseball!

Although your post is a joke, I am going to take the opportunity to address the subject of the Oscars anyway.

I really, really, really hope we don't have to sit through endless montages of the same old classic films for the 80th time. As great as some of those movies are, I don't need to see footage from Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, any number of Hitchcocks, It's A Wonderful Life, Forrest Effin' Gump, etc. etc... we get it, Hollywood. Let's focus on something else.

Just something that's always really bugged me.

My wife has been sharpening her claws all awards season, she's ready for the big event. It's more fun listening to her bitching about the dresses than watching the awards.

I always look forward to the "Those We Lost" segment just to see who gets the most applause for being dead. I'll also be rooting for Searching For Sugar Man in the Best Documentary category.
Who will I be wearing? Mr. Levi Strauss and Mr. Hanes.

The only nominations I've seen were Argo, Django Unchained and Searching for Sugar Man.

The Independent Spirit Awards is always a good warmup to the Oscars. I feel I learn a lot and I appreciate the camraderie and the underdog spirit of those attending. It beats tonight's extended pomp in many ways. The first award given out last night was to a screenwriter who was well in his cups. After a couple of minutes a graphic came on screen reading "Five Minutes Later" and they cut back to the stage with other guests serving him Jamison's and escorting him off.

    Oh boy.

Looks like the night won't end with the BEST PICTURE award. Nope. The Academy feels they can supply a "must see moment" by having Seth MacFarlane and Kristen "Damn I Am Ugly & Annoying" Chenoweth do a dance number. Perfect.

That's what DVRs were invented for!
I think Beasts of the Southern Wild is the only nominated film I've seen, so I'll watch the opening then tune back in later to see if our home-town boy, Beasts director Ben Zeitlin, makes good.

You can say that again! It will be nice to skip all the crap. I also love watching SNL the next morning rather than live on Saturday night. After skipping the many commercials, the almost always horrible musical guest and the opening political sketch (rarely funny, at least to non-Americans), I can enjoy the whole show in 40-45 minutes! I haven't watched a commercial in years now.

I've only seen Django Unchained for the nominations this year, although I did suffer through hearing Les Miserables while my wife watched it in the next room. Wow, that Russell Crowe is a flat singer.

Will be watching with much attention ( I have made a living from the movie industry for the past 30 years ).
Hoping for War Witch in the Best Foreign film category, director Kim Nguyen is from Montreal and this movie got to me big time.

Best actor I hope will be Daniel Day Lewis, he's splendid in it.

Best actress would be awesome if it was Emmanuelle Riva, Amour is just a heartbreaking movie.

Best movie will probably be Lincoln, I hope it's not Argo (long story...)

Best director for me is a tie between Spielberg and Ang Lee.

I like Seth a lot but this isn't his shining moment.

Focus on something else, other than honoring the seminal and influential actors and directors who made the films that define Hollywood?
Not sure I get that sentiment. Especially with film preservation and history such an important topic. You must hate TCM.

So far lots of lame "jokes" (more so than usual) and lots of presenters coming to the mike and laughing at things only they know about. And that's only the first 90 minutes!

I believe I said "for the 80th time". My issue is not that those films are honoured, it's that they are honoured every single time, and that gets a bit stale, you know? Some of them are my favourite films but how many times do I need to sit through those hokey montages? I have no idea what TCM is.

Like him or not, MacFarlane was by a very wide margin the edgiest host ever. I personally liked him a lot, and so did the other 2 people I was watching with.

He sure as hell isn't for everyone though.

    TCM is Turner Classic Movies.

So you are against them spending time honoring older actors and directors etc with lifetime achievement Oscars etc? Because that is when they usually show old film montages. The idea being that you are celebrating one of the greats in the business in front of his or her peers, sometimes for the last time on a public stage. I take it you despise Hall of Fame inductions when they show old clips of athletes going in the Hall too?
