"One of many special joys of the 'Searching For The Spark' Steve Hillage box set were several edits of Steve's echo guitar recordings made in the Gong house in May 1973. This release contains much more of the same magical session plus expanded tracks which it was impossible to include in the box-set which had to be limited to 22 discs."

You may laugh but I want my chakras unblocked thank you very much.

Not “limited to 22” doesn’t necessarily mean 23. Heck, could mean any number larger or smaller than 22.

    Heck!!

This is because they HAD to use a too small box and there was not enough space remaining to include the two extra CD's. Or then they HAD to leave out the (essential) badge to make room for the CD's ?

Strangely enough, as a completist and purchaser of this giga S.H Spark boxset I'm missing the funny side of all this...

It would have been good if the superb box set was definitive and complete, but I’ll pick up a copy when I see him on Thursday in Cambridge, and I will squeeze the bloody thing into the case!

So I saw the gig in Cambridge last night, and I have to say it was incredible. Steve and Miquette are backed by the current stellar incarnation of Gong, and good friend of PE Kavus Torabi was born to feature prominently in this band, I think he has the coolest CV in present day music! Steve shared front man duties and vocals with Kavus, and played everything you would want to hear in a solo Steve setting, and they rocked. I couldn’t have asked for a better set list, so if you have an opportunity to see this show, take it.

I picked up the new CD and will report back when I have had a chance to play it.

Thanks for the review. Kavus is great. Miquette's central role in Steve Hillage "solo" music should never be understated!

I’ve just had a play through the new disc once. These are exactly what you would expect, solo Steve with Miquette acting as tape op only, recorded in 73 at the Gong House, noodling away at themes and ideas, with echo effects to the fore. Many themes are familiar, and it makes for an interesting historic listen. It’s obviously only really for those completists, but any fan will enjoy the music within, and I’m pleased I bought it.
