I'd say lovely albums for "[...] later day prog" would be almost unbearably many, seeing as "later day" appears to comprise several decades and this "prog" thing by definition tends to develop further and beyond "early day".
It's one of the unsung ones. And not just because of the allegedly bad lyrics. But I like it as well, although both CD-versions from the 90s (it was one of the few 70s RPIs to get a reissue on both Mellow and Vinyl Magic) are raw needledrops. The music has such an aura of intense passion to it that the more overt pop antics don't really play havoc. Romanticism galores. And yet another token to the vast influence of VdGG/Hammill.

"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
^ I'm just streamed it but the sound was cool...didn't notice the cracks n popz. Been hitting it every day now, I love discovering these 70s Italian gems years after the fact. I had a feeling you were a fan of this one Richard. I also just realized I posted this in the wrong thread...ohhhh!!
NP: Le Orme - Contrappunti It's really a nice one. Interesting, Krautrocky widdly bits...
Nobody does Prog like the Italians!!!

If I do it, I'm committing to listening to all of their studio output, even the weakest ones. I think I've listened to part of Miss Baker, but I don't believe I've gone through the whole album.
I was actually watching an early 80s concert by them on Youtube recently. It's weird watching Cioccio really doing his best Phil Collins impersonation with running back and forth between the mike and his drum kit.
I have a sentimental attachment to Miss Baker! It's clearly not one of their more memorable albums. But, a friend and I were travelling through southern Italy and Sicily during the summer of 1987. We stayed with a friend in Lecce and he told me about the album's release since he knew that I was an Italian prog fan. I found the album on cassette at a record shop in Taormina and purchased it. I still have the cassette! I find it far more listenable than the 1980s Banco output, but I guess that that's not a ringing endorsement.
La Buona Novella I also really like. Technically not really a PFM album and certainly not Prog, but more like a cover album (although they played on the original) of the classic by Fabrizio De André. Still enough PFM touches to make it their own.
Man, those melodies are so great.
I have the Amico Faber box and love it.
Also recommended: Prog Exhibition Box. Has PFM, Banco and Tony Pagliuca/ Tolo Marton/ Aldo Taglipietra (playing Le Orme)
John Wetton was guesting with Banco, but because of record companies objecting, it hasn't been included. There's some clips floating arount on YT.
HuGo"Very, very nice," said a man in the crowd,
When the golden voice appeared.
She was gold alright, but then so is rust.
"Such a shame about the beard."
I like the Prog Exhibition box set. It's neat to see Ian Anderson play with PFM. Back in their very early days, they used to do Jethro Tull covers. There are some examples on the first disc of their "10 Anni Live 71-81" box set.
I agree that it was disappointing that the John Wetton guesting with Banco was dropped from the official release. The audience videos on YT aren't terrific quality, but they give a good impression of what transpired.
Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883...
That's the title track, of course - "Contrappunti" itself. The greatest thing they ever did, IMO, and I'm not merely saying that because I'm an overt fan of more advanced types of "prog". But as with ELP's "Toccata" you sometimes wish they'd made more of that sort; dense, dissonant, tremendously intense and just plain powerful.

So what do people recommend as far as Tagliapietra and Pagliuca's solo works?
For Aldo Tagliapietra, I'd recommend any or all of Nella Pietra Nel Vento, L'angelo Rinchiuso, and Invisibili Realtą. All are very strong and much preferable to the Le Orme albums of the same period IMO. I also have a boxed set of his Unplugged volumes 1 & 2 and those are very good as well.

I bought 3 excellent Celeste CD's but I must day Il Risveglio del Principle is beyond absolutely stunning. It's as good as their debut 42 years ago. I rate it on par with the Italian Big Three!! I'd recommend running out to get it. The other 2 are also really nice.

only Michi Dei Rossi on drums remained in the band
Of course! Happy to spread the good word. The band (presumably Dei Rossi) have been posting for a while now regarding this new tour/album. The band mentioned that there will be special guests but have not revealed who they are/will be. I assume we will find out.
If it's the same band that put together the new recording of Felona Sorona (well, not exactly new new, but you get the point), then I'm definitely in.
I'm sure we'd all love to see Aldo back in the fold, but that doesn't appear to be happening. (Note: I'm definitely not sure about this. I'm guessing others have more complete info than I.)

The Le Orme 2CD will feature many past members like TONY PAGLIUCA, TOLO MARTON, JIMMY SPITALERI, FRANCESCO SARTORI etc.
Sadly Aldo refused to join..
There are some more 70s bands working on new stuff: Balletto di Bronzo, Semiramis and Alphataurus
Very cool.
This is disappointing, but I don't know any of the details so I shouldn't judge. I just would really love to hear Aldo singing with Le Orme again, even if only on one or two songs. Thankfully he has made some lovely solo records at least.
