Rick Wakeman - The Grumpy Old Rock Star Tour

Good music gets better with repeated listenings (to a certain limit). Comedy, with rare exceptions, depends so much on surprise that it gets stale fast.

I can listen to a CD multiple times, but I hardly ever read a book for the second time. When you know a story (and comedy is mostly stories) it often stays in your mind. I can still cite parts of comedy-artists I heard in the past, even if it is 30 years or more I heard them for the last time.

We saw Rick’s Grand Piano tour outside of Boston probably ten years ago. We enjoyed the show and I fulfilled my lifelong desire to meet Rick, one of my Prog gods since I was 12 years old!

I'm going in spite of being disappointed with the tour. He came like 10 years ago with a piano tour, then a Jon & Rick tour. Both are underwhelming because he entirely goes through the motions on a predictable cakewalk set. But, I a huge fan so I'll take what I can get while he's still with us. It's just a night out not far from home.

If only he would do something a bit more clever, like bring a mini-moog and do some goopy six-wives stuff with some improv. He hasn't done a band tour here since the early 90's with his son Adam.
