I can listen to a CD multiple times, but I hardly ever read a book for the second time. When you know a story (and comedy is mostly stories) it often stays in your mind. I can still cite parts of comedy-artists I heard in the past, even if it is 30 years or more I heard them for the last time.

So, how do we get a handle on this prog/sense of humour thing? My thoughts on the matter, citing the Big Six (other Big Sixes are available, YMMV) as examples:

King Crimson less po-faced than Yes? I don't think so!

You've surely heard Robert's stand-up* routines on The Great Deceiver? He's on fire!

    *OK, sit-down routines...

ELP should be at both ends of the scale at the same time.

What music does he play? Is it all piano or some synth too? He plays full songs right?

Wakeman's comedy act is hilarious. But that's not enough for me to spend my money.

We saw Rick’s Grand Piano tour outside of Boston probably ten years ago. We enjoyed the show and I fulfilled my lifelong desire to meet Rick, one of my Prog gods since I was 12 years old!

Would have gone to the Montreal show since we're in town for Hackett and King Crimson, but my daughter's wedding is getting in the way of this triumvirate.

    Have you talked to her?

He brings a grand piano with him? I know the venue I might go to does not have one. I'd be disappointed to hear an electric piano for a solo concert.

Then be ready to be disappointed. I'm out!

I'm going in spite of being disappointed with the tour. He came like 10 years ago with a piano tour, then a Jon & Rick tour. Both are underwhelming because he entirely goes through the motions on a predictable cakewalk set. But, I a huge fan so I'll take what I can get while he's still with us. It's just a night out not far from home.

If only he would do something a bit more clever, like bring a mini-moog and do some goopy six-wives stuff with some improv. He hasn't done a band tour here since the early 90's with his son Adam.

When I saw him on the previous tour, it was not a digital piano.

I would go again, too. It's Rick Effing Wakeman, for Christ sake!

Would like that grand piano guarantee to secure a ticket..... I've seen & heard many people play solo piano and loved the way it's played and the SOUND of that instrument. If its going to be excerpts and commentary....well no
