After recording the SHAFT soundtrack as Isaac Hayes' backing band, the Bar Kays released this album

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Save for few exceptions which are rather funky e.g. Magma and elephant9, I like 70's jazz funk a lot more than prog rock. You're free to stone me if you want to.

That Pleasure album is so excellent! People might knock it because the production is so super clean (and there really wasn't enough bottom end) but every song on that album slays (except Thinking About Old Flames) Killer Guitar solos abound!

There is some weird stuff listed here. Soviet and Polish funk? Mind blown.

How about some Parliament Funkadelic? Some of it is a bit proggy, no?

Here is a cool interview with progressive Funk-Rock Guitarist DeWayne “Blackbyrd” McKnight https://nafme.org/dewayne-blackbyrd-mcknight/

A lot of it is. I do believe there’s more than a touch of Zappa influence there. A lot of it is also weird, and weird + 70s = proggy.

How's about something from 2019 but sounds like it could have been in a chase scene from a 70's blaxploitation flick. Can you dig it!

An astonishing proggy-funk gem from Serbian composer and pianist Bora Rokovic (from Ultra Native LP, 1972) :

Keyboardist Howard Wales is best known for his work with Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead.
Solar Eclipse is a track from his album Rendezvous With The Sun from 1976:

Howard Wales & Jerry Garcia jam called Space Funk, recorded live at the Matrix club in San Francisco in 1970 and released on Side Trips Volume One CD in 1998:

Didn't recall this being funkier than Alphosne Mouzon's 1974 python boots...but it probably is.
