Not strictly funk, but from Robert Palmer’s Sneakin’ Sally Through The Alley album that also features The Meters and members of Little Feat. The drumming on this, Through It All There’s You, is masterly – Bernard Purdie apparently laid the track down in one take.

    Good suggestion, though.

    he's become Zelig

    gotta say this though
if ya dont like his carpet bomb postings, just put him on 'ignore' and you wont see them!

personally, I find 20-30% of his bandcamp suggestions to be 'good finds'
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Unlike rock music, funk appeared in ex-Yugoslavia in traces, being scattered on various albums by the artists from different genres, and thus in the catalog of one of its major labels Jugoton (now Croatia Records), although these traces are extremely interesting and incredibly high quality, so it is really surprising that it took so long for someone with a gap of almost fifty years to discover what wealth hides in the discographic past of that country that no longer exist. With this Croatia Records / Everland Music's V/A compilation, remastered straight from the vaults of Jugoton, the door to the treasury of the 70's 'psychedelic' funky grooves from the former Yugoslav music scene, full of incredible musicians, ideas and stories, rare releases and some indigenous cool roots, is now opened for the listener. Light the joint up, sit back and enjoy this music.

Here's my obligatory Norman Whitfield plug, which I feel compelled to submit every time "funk" is discussed here at PE . One of the things I love about Whitfield is how he uses the same song and records it with different artists (switching between The Temptations, Undisputed Truth and Rare Earth) to make it sound very different. In the psychedelic music thread running on PE at the moment, Whifield's excellent "I Know I'm Losing You" was mentioned, as played by Rare Earth. Here is the Undisputed Truth's version, which gets into a great groove at about the three and a half minute mark.

Whitfield also seems to have a sense of humour. Here is one about some soldier who hasn't been able to "get it on" for two years, five months, one week and a day. He's in the Red Zone.
