The mixture of Bernie and Bootsy on this is incredible, if this don't do it you might as well jump off a 10 story building.

    heh... my favorite Parliament album!
Gloryhallostoopid is great too. The earlier ones just don't have the depth of layers that those later 2 have
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

It would have been interesting to see how far Hendrix would have gone down the funk track. He was already there at midnight on 1/1/70, and with more feeling than many later funk bands....

Now playing and having a great time for the 2nd time in a row: a must for any Azymuth's fan and for the "cosmic, samba-tinted jazz-funk."

Funk was in him already. Sadly he died soon after.

What to be posted after Jimi and to not sound like a shit? Only some crazy Eastern Europeans who played some damn proggy funk behind the Iron Curtain in the middle of the Cold War.

I would have to agree with this 100%
Jeff Beck found the sweetspot on these two albums.
I remember hearing this and thinking that this was really how a great rhythm section should be working together. Much more interesting than most of the
progressive rock rhythm sections that put forward something more predictable in nature.

I wish Beck had continued down this path further and given us three or four more of these albums. While "There and Back" was very good, it wasn't quite in the league of these two.

Despite Sir George Martin messing up the album with his cheesy string arrangements, I prefer BBB to BW (which I find much too cold & technical), but the best of that era was easily the live with JHG

T&B is not a good IMHO, but Beck's last potable (read audible) album, IMHO

I know the mention of anything Hip Hop drives folks crazy as by Hughes's original post yet here's one that is one for the ages.

Jeremy Steig (RIP) was one of the leading jazz flutists during the late 60s and the 70s. He has recorded this proggy funk gem in 1970.

Actually, Sir George Martin added very light strings just on these two tracks (the second one is a slow-tempo, album-closing track) and nothing is cheesy with them - on the contrary, both of Sir Martin's orchestral arrangements fits the album perfectly:
