Level 42 founder member Boon Gould found dead

`One of the founding members of 1980s pop group Level 42 has died.

A statement from lead singer Mark King said Boon Gould, 64, was found dead at his home in Dorset on Tuesday.

He was the guitarist and saxophone player for the group between 1980 and 1987 and reunited for a one-off performance in Bristol in 2012.

Terrible news. So sorry to hear this...

I really enjoyed his work with Level 42. Condolences to his brother Phil, his family, and of course Mark King and Mike Lindup. This is just really sad to hear about...

Sad news. The guitar solo on Something About You is absolutely perfect.

This is some bad news indeed.
When Level 42 arrived at the scene they were such a fresh wind, especially when you knew their love for old fashioned jazzrock.
Played that first album a lot.
Strange thing of course was when Boon left he was replaced by the late great Alan Murphy, then by the even greater Allan Holdsworth (RIP for him too) for a while.

What a shame. For my money, L42 was one of the best bands of the 80s. Some first-class musicianship and songwriting on display there. RIP

    Indeed.

    Another talented musician gone. R.I.P.

As displayed through numerous threads here on PE, there was an abundance of fantastic bands in the 80s, including "progressive" ones. Level 42 became big for a while, especially here in Scandinavia. They had some fine pop/jazz singles to show.

Sad news. 64 is too young to go. Level 42 added rare musical elements to the English music scene, bringing US jazz-funk influences into the framework of UK sophisti-pop.

Sad news indeed. Level 42 were huge for me. The perfect blend of pop, funk and a bit of jazz/rock fusion. In the 80's and 90's one of their vinyl LP's or CD's was never too far from my player. May he Rest.
