Anyone check out black midi yet?
Crazy math art rock out of London signed to Rough Trade. Hella meets King Crimson. Sort of.
Their debut album, Schlagenheim, is really good.
And their drummer, Morgan Simpson...
Wow.

The Prog Corner
I like them well enough, but I was surprised when I learned that that they are apparently much hyped in the UK. They are plowing well worn territory, drawing on a lot of math, noise rock, and quirky indie and prog from the past thirty years or so, but they do it well and are very young, so it will be interesting to see how and if they grow beyond their influences. Better this kind of more rarified referential rock getting attention rather than the ubiquitous Zep tribute crap (no names, but c’mon...) getting a lot of attention here in the states.
I enjoy them, and they're obviously very good players - although I've yet to hear an actual math-rock group in which at least the drummer and one guitarist isn't - but there's been a kind of inflation in this sort of rock music too. This doesn't mean it can't be done with immense skill and soaring Craft, so I'm anticipating further on.
"Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
Pitchfork says it's good, maybe they should review some Ahleuchatistas or Yowie https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums...-schlagenheim/
...but not as good as Beyonce's live album which gets a 9.3

any new developments in the last 3.5 months?
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
One development has been the partial melting of my credit card! 2019 has so far been a banner year for mega-boxsets! .... and the PF & GG boxes haven't come yet!
Wait until next year and the 50th sets of bands circa 1970 start to appear!
Let It Be will be 50. I'm sure the PE tabulators on here will make a List of Bands formed in 1970 who will be 50 next year.
The thread about Physical Storage of our media has been my current focus and will be my next major expense.....making cabinets to hold this trove of plastic & vinyl......to eventually end up in a dumpster when I shift this Mortal Coil......by the way, that is also the name of one of my Boxsets!
The Ice Cream Lady Wet her drawers........To see you in the Passion Playyyy eeee - I. Anderson
"It's kind of like deciding not to date a beautiful blonde anymore because she farted." - Top Cat
I was expecting to be kinda meh, but it made my nips stiffen - Jerjo
(Zamran) "that fucking thing man . . . it sits there on my wall like a broken clock " - Helix
Social Media is the "Toilet" of the Internet - Lady Gaga
Yiorgos Fakanas Group - Live At Athens
Brian Beller - Scenes From The Flood
The Spellcasters - Music From The Anacostia Delta

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
We think somewhat alike. I would add a few....especially what seems to me to be album of the year so far....Chasing the Monsoon.
I forgot about that Panzerpappa LP. Great stuff!!!
