Thread: Arturia Mellotron V

  1. #26
I still use M-Tron and the venerable Roland MVS-1 for most of my tron stuff. Mellowsound is a decent iOS Tron emulation. I am two iterations behind upgrading the Arturia V-Collection; their Buchla intrigues most of all, but I will definitely check out their Tron if and when I upgrade.

I have had MTron since about 2005, upgraded to M Tron Pro a couple of years ago, and I have the latest V Collection.
I'll have to check this out. I might actually prefer the Arturia Mellotron, I don't know.
Sometimes the Mellotron presets in workstation synths sound too abrasive for my taste. I like the strings and choirs smooth and warm, like I've always heard them on Yes and Genesis albums. The Rick Wakeman artist presets in GForce MTron Pro are audibly smoother and warmer than most of the other factory sounds. Those are the ones I've used primarily.

I am a firm believer in, you can't have too many Mellotrons, or versions. lol
I also have been using MTron since 2005 and upgraded to Pro many moons ago. I still don't have the Streetly Tapes pkgs yet tho.
I even used the Mellotron in my former King Korg synthesizer for Stormy Weather.

I think the Arturia V offers something different and would be useful.
Perhaps you should wait and see if Arturia puts it on sale for Black Friday or End of Year. You might be able to pick it up half off.
I got some great compressors from them for a pkg deal of $99.

Lately I've been gassing for the Mellotron M4000D mini keyboard version, and am in love with it, and keep looking around my studio for a volunteer to sell to help fund one. lol

I had MTron Pro, but switched over and started using the Mellotron-V in my recordings. It's not exactly the same but especially once blended into a mix, it's just fine for my purposes.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:
