I don't know about that. Negative viewpoints tend to appear a larger percentage than they really are, as they are often more elaborately constructed and dwarf the positive ones by comparison - and let's face it, people love to complain and criticize on the net. I've seen loads of people loving this season too, but when most of those comments are just "Great episode!" or "Loved it!" compared with lengthy analyses expanding on every flaw someone can think of, well...

Nothing wrong with either kind of opinion, of course. I get why some people like it and others don't.

The only way this ends for me to be happy is for Arya to take down Dany.

At this point I am pretty much hate-watching. D&D with the two staff writers have screwed the pooch on this with some truly shoddy writing. I was expecting to get some closure that I won't get from the books unless the Old Gods grant GRRM an extraordinary long life. I mean really fucking long. I love these characters quite a bit but they've been done such a great disservice by this shoddy rushed season with its ridiculous shifts in character's behavior, and utterly nonsensical plot development.

Oh well, there's hope that Amazon is smart enough to not screw up the Expanse. And season 10 of Archer is coming.

Its a shame they didn't have at least one more season to flesh out the character and plot developments as they head towards the end.

In a disastrous case of poor timing I am going away on holiday on Friday for a week and probably wont be able to watch the final episode until a week later. Good luck to me avoiding spoilers! (Although I think I know what's going to happen anyway.)

Yeah, I don't know how many times I have to say it, but COME ON man! Your faithful readers have been too patient for too long. What the hell could possibly take so long? I want to know what really happens. I want to return to the world of Lady Stoneheart and Strong Belwas and Arstan Whitebeard (who didn't immediately reveal himself to Daenerys as actually being Barristan Selmy)... a world where 'Rattleshirt' was the one killed instead of Mance Rayder. And where Ramsay Bolton didn't marry Sansa, but who he thought was Arya Stark (but was actually Jeyne Poole). And where Tyrion was hideously disfigured in the Battle of Blackwater Bay - not just a scar on his cheek. Where Jojen and Meera played a much greater role, and the 'green dreams' were a fascinating aspect of Bran's storyline. Where Varys and Littlefinger were far more fearsome.... And on and on it goes... I love the show but I can't wait to get back to the books. When I hear a definitive release date, I will re-read them all in preparation.

It's been announced that the producers/showrunners are going to work on the next Star Wars trilogy. So apparently GoT was just something they had to get out of the way.

I was discussing this with my niece who won't watch the show until GRRM finishes the novels. I wondered if maybe he's pulling a Clarke, as in Arthur C. and 2001. Once the TV show is done, Martin will use it as a kind of template.

My daughter was doing the same thing, not watching the show until she's read all the books, she eventually caved and started watching, she continually rants about differences from the books.

I would like to read the books, but I'm not going to start on something with the knowledge that their is a rather high chance it won't be properly finished. IF he ever finshes this things, I'll jump in and start from the beginning. Otherwise I'm comfortable with having the show be my only run into this realm.

Okay, so looking ahead to the finale there are only a handful of characters left. With that said, several of the characters have unfinished stories...or do they? What to expect?

Sansa - My *guess* is that she would end up "Queen of the North" unless she takes the throne (if there's a throne left to take). But either way her story seems unfinished to me. Since returning to Winterfell, she's been essentially the "hand" and a plotter, but not much else. Or, she dies.

Arya - The symbolism of her riding on the horse makes her "death". Maybe this is significant for a few reasons. Maybe she can't escape that she will be an assassin for life. The obvious angle is that she will kill Dany and then go on to star in a number of Marvel films. Or, she dies.

Bran - Did he already serve his purpose when he gave Arya the dagger and confirmed Jon's lineage? My mind runs wild with possibilities for this guy. Could have been the horse? Could he have warged into Drogon? Could he have warged into Dany? Will we discover that he manipulated many of the events of the show? My feeling is that you wouldn't describe Bran as a villain or antagonist, but as a neutral force serving a greater agenda. Or, he dies.

Jon - I would *like* to believe Melisandre that the Lord of Light resurrected him for a purpose. That purpose would seem not to be that he would rule the seven kingdoms. It would feel to me that once that purpose has been served, he dies (much like we saw with Beric). Killing TNK might have been the obvious path in that regard, but that didn't happen. Killing Dany seems the obvious path now. Or, he dies.

Tyrion - He seems destined to survive. Now that his siblings are gone, it's difficult to see his path going forward. He could become king, could kill Dany. He could marry Sansa and rule with her. He could ride away on a boat to a far away land. The vast majority of his motivating factors are resolved. He may be pissed off at Dany, but killing her doesn't seem like something he'd try to do. Or, he dies.

Dany - I found it interesting that you didn't see Dany's face much or at all once she decided to burn the innocents. Given that showing facial expressions seem so important to the show and we frequently would see Dany in previous times she was airborne, I wonder why they didn't just take the extra step and see her screaming with rage or cackling wickedly. Anyway, so she's Darth Targaryen now. She only has one episode to redeem herself. But at the speed this is going, she'll announce she's pregnant and give birth. Or, she dies.

Drogon - I figure he must be hungry. He got quite the workout. Or maybe he's the one that went mad.

Tormond - As time goes on, my hopes he will appear with Ghost are dwindling.

Gendry - Maybe he can use Podrick as his wingman, use his clout as Lord of Storm's End, and find a new Lady every night.

Podrick - He's going to catch some sort of VD if he's not careful.

Brienne - She goes where Sansa goes. Of course, she'll learn of Jaime's death and take it out on...oh right.

Davos - He gets really pissed when fire is used to burn innocents, so I'd imagine he'll get toasted when trying to take a swing at Dany.

Grey Worm - He dies defending Dany or otherwise as some tool to move the plot forward.

Yara - I guess she just lives on as leader of the Iron Islands. I mean, if Euron and Theon are dead, what's the point?

Bronn - Lannisters always pay their debts. Will Bronn come to collect?

Sam & Gilly - I guess out of the show at this point.

Jaqen - Could the Faceless man return? What role would he play? Is he going to reveal he's actually Syrio?

    Who else?
You basically are highlighting my greatest fear going into the final episode...that all these character arcs won't reach a conclusion (and I'm not even thinking about a satisfying/logical/or personally enjoyable one). This, for me, is the main issue that will make me like/love/hate/etc the finale, more so than who ascends to the iron throne/what happens to the kingdom in general. (If we never see Tormund or Sam again, that is unforgivable in my eyes, given the battle of winterfell)

As for who will take the iron throne...before the season I like the following:

    1. Sansa (29%)
    2. The inevitable baby produced by Jon and Daenerysí boat sex. (probably protected by Varys or Davos until of age) (27 %)
    3. Cersei (20%)
    4. Davos Seaworth (10%)
    5. Bronn (5%)

Clearly this has gone awry. I still Sansa has a fair chance (she is certainly playing the game of thrones better than anyone atm) but she will have to get out of winterfell first. This inevitable baby wasn't as inevitable as I hoped. Cersei is dead, which leaves me with the final two longshots.

I've heard about the supposed spoilers (which I didn't read, nor do I want to know ahead of time) which are coming true, and that from those it will be a downer and unexpected ending, for the majority of people. I'm not sure who would fall into that category. Everyone in King's Landing can't be considered unexpected (even though I suppose for someone like Grey Worm it would be somewhat surprising). Ditto for Gendry (arguably the rightful heir). I feel like the general populace likes characters like Bronn, Podrick, Sam, Bran, Tormoud, and Brienne too much for it to be considered a downer. So whose left? Yara? Hot Pie? Illyn Payne? Jaqen? Little Sam?
    No humor please, we're skittish.

It's a discussion site. Who wants to read 15 pages of "cool episode", "OMG" and "holy shit"? Speaking for myself, I'm at least trying to add something to talk about. And just about everything everyone has posted here that has added value to the overall discussion has been in a respectful manner. <shrugs>

    Cersei's death was extremely lame.

He told Tyrion. Tyrion even revealed to Varys, right before he was roasted, "It was me."

FWIW, I have often said something with a similar sentiment (slightly different) when it comes to discussing music on PE (or elsewhere). Critical opinions tend to be more detailed, but also are challenged and asked to be defended. Whereas rarely is someone asked to defend their positive opinion.

    Could be!

I am hoping for something that satisfies me. I can't even really tell you what that is, but there's a lot that could. I can only tell you that Dany burning thousands of innocents wasn't it.

So I'll be glad when they reveal that Bran warged Drogon or Dany on Sunday.

Believe me, this place is much safer than You Tube, there are endless videos slagging it off, some of it justified, some of it just click bait. Whatever, if the leaks that have mostly been true so far are true for the finale then brace yourselves.

I didn't see any ravens taking those letters but Varys has a network of his own (which the series has all but forgotten about). It's a shame that the series decided to ignore the plot line of Griff, who Varys really wanted on the throne.

I am betting on some dragon eggs magically appearing in the last episode.
