Sorry for no links, but some hauntingly beautiful tunes for me:
    "Black Water" by David Sylvian
"The Turning Ground" by Caroline Lavelle
"Turn of the Century" by Yes
"Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter" - Yoda

Wow, there sure is a diverse selection of what folks consider to be "hauntingly beautiful!" I don't consider all submissions to fit the bill, but several have been great and the wide range of how we perceive things is one of the things that makes PE such a fun place!

As the starter of this thread, I suppose it's time I learned how to embed at our new digs. Here we go (and wish me luck)!

This is a relatively obscure tune by Jobim that epitomizes the idea of "melancholy but beautiful" for me.

    Hey, it worked!

I just posted an ECM related vid on another thread, so that label is on my mind for this:

    Ralph Towner - New Moon

This is ambient/new age, but I love this "song":

I've always thought that was one of the most beautiful pieces of music in pop/rock.

My favorite is probably Eleanor Rigby.

Another vote for Turn of the Century. Also add God Only Knows, This Woman's Work, This is the Life (Wendy and Lisa),Violet (Seal), The Moment I Said It (Imogen Heap), Woman in Chains, Beautiful, Bedshaped (Keane).
