    The Mars Volta: Dixie Martians?

The Mars Volta ... not exactly "good ol' boy" Southern-style music.

No it's not. But they're from the south.

I suppose, we all need to work to expand the concept of what "Southern Music" is.......

TMV isn't from the south; they're from Texas which is essentially another country!

LOL. well yes, they;d like to secede, even

But believe me, TX is VERY much the south in all the ways that there is "Southern-ness".

The GOOD and the bad. the foods, the religiosity, the resistance to change and evolution in school books etc.

All the southern culture is there -- and as far as the BIG stuff -- loving the rebel flag, and fighting the Confederate fight etc, It's all there.

Don't be black or brown on the highway in a LOT of small towns -- no worse than Alabama or South Carolina.

The barbeque, the drinkin, the spicy foods, the greens. All there. It's the South.

Between the Buried and Me have their little country sections
House of Fools are from North Carolina

The Mars Volta use *salsa* or *latin* elements, but "South" or "Southern" doesn't exactly fit.
