    Moody Blues Autobahn

I just listened for the first time ever to 'In the search of the last chord' by The Acid-Mood Blues. On Pinders The Best Way to travel' they use exactly the same sound effect as Kraftwerk on Autobahn a couple of years later to present the sound of a fast passing car. How was this produced in both cases? Filter opening?

How can you make this sound on a mellotron? Speeding up?

Yes, this panel is from the M400 model, which used a replaceable tape frame with three selectable sounds.

Couldn't open your link, but I found a live recording. Nice one. They seem to have a couple of stomp boxes on scene, but the passing car sound is clearly a slide of all four.
