Thread: Once again, were down to one Yes: ARW is toast

ARW ended recording in early 2018 and Anderson has said he wanted to finish the songs in February and March, but it didn't work out, they couldn't be in the same place at thee same time, etc. Wakeman had said in February 2018 that ARW had some good songs and some very good songs and that they decided to work on the very good songs and release an EP later.

Rabin played "Fragile" on a radio station in July 2018 and in September they were considering playing it live but didn't. Rabin said ARW had many more songs "in the pipeline" and that no one was against recording them - an odd statement. Anderson then said they had half an album completed but almost certainly without a song he brought in. He added he still thought there was still a great Yes album t be made and that he had eight songs for it that would work with an orchestra. Finally, Anderson said he wanted to be in Yes again where they would right music in part based on his songs. He also may have thought he could be with Yes in 2020 and a final tour with ARW in 2021.

But it didn't enter the top 100 albums in the UK. Simple Minds' Best of 40 years double album is at #23.

That's quite an argument, I hope you and yourself can come to a truce on that.

Wakeman has repeatedly said ARW should not be marketed as Yes although didn't mind ARW: "An Evening of Yes Music and More" as long as Yes wasn't the band name. Anderson has wanted ARW to be considered as Yes but not sure what he currently thinks. Apparently, you haven't been following this.

Not the main chart so it's basically meaningless IMHO. And given you can now often scrape into the main Top 10 with four-figure album sales, I wonder what kind of numbers we'd be talking about in a specialist chart! But sure, it's not a proper new album anyway.

^Every ARW thread ends up like this for the same reason.

I could believe that they've done some rough demos and song fragments. But I don't think they have much if anything that is 'good to go' beyond what we've already heard.

And it's like Wakeman himself says, they aren't getting any younger.

How could anyone possibly know unless they were in the band or close to the band?

Pomeroy in September 2017 said: "there is a lot of music recorded now, and I've heard a lot of it. It's fantastic."

Anderson in July 2018: "...but I just know that the music that we're [ARW are] doing, to me, is pretty fantastic. When it will get recorded properly, who knows? Because we have great demos already, but the music, it's a question of timing."

    2019?

I imagine that sales are more than they expected.

It is amusing that in the race between ARW and Yes with Howe/White/Downes to release new material that the winner has been Oliver Wakeman working at home on some old recordings.

We will see what 2020 brings. I am very hopeful that we'll see a Howe-White-Downes-Sherwood-Davison Yes release. I am not at all hopeful that we'll get an ARW release. But I hope we get both... and that they're good!

thank you! it's disappointing to visit first thing in the morning and find several pages filled with defensive back and forth arguments defending comments rather than discussing the actual topic.
This has gone on long enough and I appreciate your comment Poisoned Youth.

It was me he called a 'moron' but I didn't complain, for the record. I'm just bemused by his belief that new material is around the corner.

IMHO this band is done and indeed, never even really got off the ground. But if nothing else it showed that Anderson and Wakeman at least can still handle the old stuff.

Despite a full court (and some would say obnoxious) press from Brian Lane and Co. I'm guessing BL is out of the picture now (inquiring minds want to know why), which I'm guessing is at least part of the reason ARW is in flux/limbo.
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

This kind of heated argument over speculations really belongs over at Yesfans.
I come here to escape this sort of thing

I wonder why Wakeman is now saying, if they did do some further concerts, they won't call it Yes. Suggesting that was a decision made by A.N. Other all along. Their marketing caused a lot of bad feeling.

To be clear, on paper I thought this had promise. I then saw the set-lists. All very safe.

I don't see what this has to do with the other Yes.

Beyond safe - at least when you consider how little it changed over this entire run. I enjoyed the shows I saw, but over three shows there couldn’t have been more than 4-5 songs that were different throughout.
