Thread: The 2019 NFL Discussion Thread

During the game last night after the play Brady comes running out of the huddle and starts yelling at the ref like it was hands to the face or something. Then the ref throws a flag and I'm thinking Christ not another Patriots Pity Penalty, but he calls intentional grounding on Brady. I guess this was a new ref who didn't know you weren't supposed to penalize the Patriots.

Dorsett got whacked by the defender well outside the contact zone and couldn't make it to where the throw was intended, but when Brady complained, the officials handed Baltimore some home cooking.

Halfway point and the Raiders are 4-4. I expected 3-5 at best given their first half schedule. Right now the rest of their schedule looks pretty manageable.

Thu, Nov 7 vs Los Angeles Chargers
    Sun Nov 17vsCincinnati
Sun, Nov 24 @New York Jets
    Sun Dec 1 @Kansas City
    Sun, Dec 8 vs Tennessee
    Sun, Dec 15 vs Jacksonville
Sun, Dec 22 @Los Angeles Chargers
    Sun, Dec 29 @Denver

As of now, those teams are a combined 32-39 with just one of them being over .500, the Chiefs. On paper it looks like the Raiders could go 10-6 or maybe 11-5. But that's on paper and this is the NFL and it's the Raiders. But one can hope.

Heard a stat that if the Bills *only* beat the sub500 teams remaining on their schedule, they would finish 11-5.

It is painfully obvious that the refs gave that game to the Ravens. They easily cost NE 21 pts.

I would not go that far, just my #1052. The Pats looked lost in the 1st Qtr.

Looking forward to The Toilet Bowl game between the Jets and the Giants next week. ☹️ It really can’t get any worse.

True enough early in the season, but I was actually just referring to the last game. The secondary reminded me of the Giants, terrible.

Need this one on Thursday. at 5-4 we may go on to be in the Wild Card discussion for a few weeks. I don't see them overtaking the Chefs, who get Mahomes back next week...

I must admit that I am enjoying the Bears stumbling through the season. Nothing personal, just that the worse their record will be, the better our picks will be. They paid way too much for one player, especially when it is obvious that they were more than one player away from taking the next step. Now, they may have put their program back for several years, while the Raiders will keep building . That deal *may* have sent these franchises moving in opposite directions...

They made a horrible pick at QB and will suffer for years from that call.

They jumped up to #2 overall, and picked him before Mahomes and Watson..

The Ravens could have picked Aaron Rodgers but instead took Mark Clayton who was a bust at receiver. I guess that was revenge for taking Ray Lewis one spot before the Packers would have. I can't see Ray as a Cheese Head.

If the draft were tomorrow, that Bears pick would be #10 overall.

I do think the Bears "reached" to get Trubisky, but I also think it's fair to say that not many "superstars" have emerged from the top 100 picks of the last several draft classes (I stopped at 2013 which was headlined by Geno Smith lol). Sure, it's a little early to tell for some. I think 2018 will be easy to scrutinize for years to come because of how many QBs were taken in the first round.

    Starters in bold:

    2019 QB draft class

    1. Kyler Murray (ARI)
    6. Daniel Jones (NYG)
    15. Dwayne Haskins (WAS)
    42. Drew Lock (DEN)

    2018 QBs
    1. Baker Mayfield (CLE)
    3. Sam Darnold (NYJ)
    7. Josh Allen (BUF)
    10. Josh Rosen (ARI/MIA)
    32. Lamar Jackson (BAL)
    76. Mason Rudolph (PIT)

    2017 QBs

    2. Mitchell Trubisky (CHI)
    10. Patrick Mahomes (KC)
    12. Deshaun Watson (HOU)
    52. DeShone Kizer (CLE/OAK)
    87. Davis Webb (NYG/BUF)

    2016 QBs
    1. Jared Goff (LAR)
    2. Carson Wentz (PHI)
    26. Paxton Lynch (DEN/PIT)
    51. Christian Hackenberg (NYJ/out)
    91. Jacoby Brissett (NE/IND)
    93. Cody Kessler (CLE/NE)
    100. Connor Cook (OAK/out)

    2015 QBs

    1. Jameis Winston (TAM)
    2. Marcus Mariota (TEN)
    75. Garrett Grayson (NO/out)
    89. Sean Mannion (LAR/MIN)

    2014 QBs
    3. Blake Bortles (JAC/LAR)
    22. Johnny Manziel (CLE/out)
    32. Teddy Bridgewater (MIN/NO)
    36. Derek Carr (OAK)
    62. Jimmy Garoppolo (NE/SF)

Yeah, but he froze in the red zone. I guess that makes him a Jaguar.

did the Gnats score after the black cat arrived?
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

idk the reaction at the time was pretty negative, especially since it looked like they didn't even need to trade up to get him

really a cruel fate for the Bears - I thought both trading up for Mitch and the Mack trade were dumb (Mack was worth what the Bears gave up, but they did not seem like they were just one defensive player away from contending) and I ate crow on that last year. Bears looked real good, had it figured out on both sides of the ball, went 12-4 (would've been 13-3 if not for miracle Aaron Rodgers and whatever the hell kind of horse drugs they gave him in Week 1), and then...the double doink happens and suddenly their offense turns back into a pumpkin and now every single game becomes "imagine if they'd spotted Mahomes or Watson". at least their defense is still solid.
