How does this differ for the major Box set a few years ago?

It's the Night After Night-related content from the Ultimate Collector's box being sold separately.

I bought the boxed set and the audio quality for the whole NAN set is superb and I think all recorded in the same way albeit over different nights. I suspect EG just put out a single album at the time maybe as U.K. were already folding?
An all time favourite live album

No - the album was recorded in June 1979 and released at the end of the summer, with touring in support of it following until December.
I guess there was too little new material to justify a double-album in EG's eyes.

And I suspect that the reason that EG only put out a single LP for UK's Night After Night is that UK was not a 'superstar band' (like Yes or Genesis) and that a 2-record set would hurt sales. Anyhow, I'm so glad to hear that the deluxe version of this album is being released outside of the Ultimate UK Box Set from a few years back (which I couldn't afford). Also, I'm still hoping that Jobson considers 5.1 mixes for the UK studio albums (it's a long shot but I can dream).

As been stated by others: the sonic quality of the additional tracks is the same, it's just not one ongoing concert you hear. I guess you don't hear it when you play it through your speakers, but through my headphones I could hear different sounding public responses.

At least it's the actual crowd responses, as opposed to spicing up a flat-sounding live recording by using canned cheering, as in one recent BRUTAL example by a different band.

edit: I'm playing it now, and I'm not sure I'm actually convinced.

If it sounds as kick-ass as that different band's then I'm totally in. Most live albums from the 70's had studio trickery regardless. Maybe Eddie didn't have access to same audience track he used in 1979.

Just learned that the multi-track tapes for U.K.'s studio albums are missing so I can forget them ever being released in 5.1 (unless the tapes turn up somewhere).

I’ll buy this. Even though I found the trio U.K. less appealing than the original 4 I still liked the studio album they did.

I love UK and will be picking this up.
I'm a bit confused however regarding the package of 2 cd's and audio blu-ray. Why do you need the 2 cd's if you have even better quality on blu-ray?
I understand if it's 2cd's and a blu ray dvd, but when it's all audio...confused!

You might have a BLu-Ray player in your living room and a CD player at work, in your car, etc.

But the Blu-Ray player would be able to play the CDs, right? Or maybe the BD has a higher resolution version on it?

    Thanks for your replies everyone.
I'd rather have the option to just buy the audio Blu Ray and use that for my audio.
I have a dedicated Onkyo CD player and love using that, but if I can get hi rez audio from the Blu Ray I would use that and not the cds.
I'm very sensitive to what we are doing to the environment and cds have to be specially recycled at dedicated recycling centers, you can't just put them in your local recycling.
I frequently burn cds when I'm checking my mixes and have quite a collection I no longer use.
I researched disposing of them and found a recycling place in New York which accepts them and recycles them(see link)*

Also the cd as a medium is fading away rapidly, even fewer new cars have them installed.

I do enjoy having the cd when I have the concert DVD on Blu Ray since sometimes you just want to listen to the music without watching the concert.

I for one hope physical media stays around a bit longer....I LOVE my CD/Blu-ray/DVD music collection! All sound better than most readily available digital files....Plus I can hold it in my hand!!!....I know that’s considered old school, but so is vinyl! And that’s having a resurgence.....
    So much music....so little time....

This thread sent me on a bit of a UK live binge over the weekend. The extended Night After Night was a major factor in pulling the trigger on the box set a couple of years ago. It's interesting hearing the "undoctored" additional tracks next to the original album tracks, particularly the backing vocals. Bozzio did a good job, but it's clear that there was plenty of post-show sweetening on the original album material. It's even more noticeable on the bonus disc of their final performance from the era - Dec. 17, 1979. I do like that the bass is more raw with that overdriven "Red" tone.

On the original album, "Presto Vivace" into "In the Dead of Night" was a terrific and strong segue. I prefer it to the studio versions.

How much is there an improvement in sound quality? (I'll be getting this either way of course...skipped the box)
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

I'm in with both feet! But hopefully they put out a set with just the 2 CDs. I don't have a BluRay player (I don't even know what that is). I'm way behind the curve and have no plans to catch up anytime soon...
You say Mega Ultra Deluxe Special Limited Edition Extended Autographed 5-LP, 3-CD, 4-DVD, 2-BlueRay, 4-Cassette, five 8-Track, MP4 Download plus Demos, Outtakes, Booklet, T-Shirt and Guitar Pick Gold-Leafed Box Set Version like it's a bad thing...

Stay out of the loop, your life will be a lot simpler, less agitated and you will feel like a normal person who is not obsessed with technology.
(I still use an old Samsung flip Phone, but only cause my beeper doesn't work anymore.

The only reason I got a cell phone was because I lost my beeper (found it run over flat in the driveway) in 2006!

For me, it works because I have no way to rip a Blu-ray. So I'll rip the CDs for portable use, and play the BD on my home theater system.
