I know this comes up occasionally, but I just got the copy I ordered of the Bowie "Loving the Alien" box set, and inside the shrink wrap, on the back, is an insert with the details of the box. ALL the type is tiny, but the type that lists the contents of the 2CD Recall 4 rarities set is infinitesimal! It has to to be 6 pt, MAYBE 8pt. Maybe smaller than 6 pt? I can't imagine there are many who could read it without a magnifying glass or reading glasses.
I know the designers are working with limited space, but why do they include stuff they must know no one will be able to read? I've seen just as bad in CD booklets, deluxe editions, etc. Wherever it's possible I'd pay a little more to be able to read it a little more easily. In the case of this Bowie insert, I can see there wasn't really a way to make it larger, but better not to include it I'd think. It's just super frustrating! It's a little bit my eyesight, but it's also just remarkably small type. I'll have to get my 9 yr old to read it to me!
Would love to get some input from graphic designers who have had to work with these sizes, and the decisions that go into the type size.
