Jaga Jazzist to Release "Jaga Jazzist Live With the Britten Sinfonia" on May 6

Folks who were not as lucky as guys like myself, who caught Jaga Jazzist's terrrific show with the Brittten Sinfonia in Oslo last fall - the final show of Conexions, a series curated by Fiona Talkington, host of the terrific BBC Radio 3 show Late Junction, amongst many other things, and which I reviewed here - will be happy to hear that Jaga will be releasing the Oslo show on May 6 as Jaga Jazzist Live With the Britten Sinfonia.

    More information here:http://jagajazzist.com/

    A video:

I just got a digital copy from drummer Martin Horntveth, and it's as good (and that means very, very good) - maybe even better - as I remember it.

Anyway, just thought I'd drop the info here, since there are quite a few Jaga fans. One of things that is said that is absolutely true: ""Mathias' trumpet solo on Bananfluer Overalt is probably my favourite moment on the album," says the group's writer and creative driving force Lars Horntveth. "He really shines here and has the space and time to improvise in a way he hasn't been able to do before with Jaga alone."

There is one new composition, written specifically for the occasion, called "Prungen."

Ok folks, now cheer up; May 6 isn't that far off...

Good news. I'll console myself with the new Gary Willis album, Retro when that arrives in the mean time.

    Thanks for the heads up.

And is this going to be a cd or dvd (or both)?

That sounds exciting. I see they're playing some live shows when I happen to be in Europe. If I was somehow able to swing a show, that would make my summer.

I assume you mean the video? Yeah, it does capture the excitement of being there, because I have to tell you that being there was absolutely thrilling. When I found out I was going to be in Norway the week before for Punkt (and with, no coincidence, Fiona Talkington who presented the Conexions series of which the Jaga/Britten show was a part), I really did everything I possibly could to get an invite to travel north from Kristiansand to Oslo so that I could catch this show. To be not just on the same continent, but in the same country just a few days before the show would have made missing it pretty darn near criminal

Yeah the video, but I love their work. A LOT!
