Thread: Woodstock 2019, the return at 50

If they really could reinvent Woodstock, do you think the chicks would be as appealing at 70 as they were at 17?
    I got nothin'

^ Well, the original Woodstock was a celebration of Corporate America, wasn't it?

Right, therefore we can be thankful there will be no repeat of the skinny-dipping at the nearby lake.

Here's a detailed description on the event of 1969.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodstock

Not quite the same, but yeah asking any community to host that large a outdoor festival is bound to be denied.
I had just returned from finishing my tour in Vietnam and my 4 years in the Air Force, and having lived through that time period, the differences between the culture and this attempt at having another one is a very very large gap.
Just one look at this 50th version's lineup and all I can say is

Old news. Smaller venue between DC and Bmore under negotiations. 12 miles from my house!

Looks like this will be toast. Fogerty backed out yesterday. JayZ followed (not that I care about that).

It's my understanding that they will still get paid under the contract terms.

From that article, I am not sure what can be assumed wrt artists playing or not playing at Merriweather. The shock for me is that Columbia would host it since they have been so controlling in the past. However, given how many multi-floor dwellings have been built around that Columbia Mall, maybe the dollar has finally won. Unfortunately, that is a hot ass venue in Aug. Rather be in upstate NY.

Merriweather Post Pavilion, my old stomping grounds; I saw many great shows there in the 60s and early 70s.

Is the Laurel Raceway still there? If so, perhaps that's an alternative? I attended the Laurel Pop Festival there in '69.

I went to bunches of shows at MPP back in the 80's and early 90's.
Went back to see some in 2000-2008. Wow, the difference a decade or so can make.
It seemed like a real pain to get to and back.

The Laurel Raceway is there, but the logistics would be much more time consuming at this point. Actually the DelFest location in Cumberland MD, also a racetrack, would be perfect. Could support multiple stages.

Darn it, I was so looking forward to Jay Z.

John Fogerty may still be good. For a real Woodstock experience I'd probably go see Santana, he's been kicking off his shows with Soul Sacrifice and Jingo lately. Touring with the Doobie Brothers as well.

It is only appropriate it be in MD, cause of PRS guitars which are also Santana’s baby I heard John Sebastian solo at a folk fest at Oregon Ridge MD in 2017. He still brings it. I think they may not have it on the same date and contracts will be renegotiated, but I’m optimistic.

I saw Fogerty a little over a year ago and he was fantastic. He has a great backing band too.
