New Elephant Tok album ‘Sitting with Bull'

This passed me by until now:

    Elephant Tok shop

Different bassist (Basile Mouton), different vocalist (Sebastien Rocquefelte), no horns this time. Not bought this or found any clips yet, but the album is on Spotify and I have listened to a few tracks. I'm sad for the loss of the horns, which I felt added a lot. I'm happy for the loss of Onan who just annoyed me (until I downloaded the instrumental version of the album and shelved my CD). The new vocalist mixes trad Zeuhl style singing with semi-spoken word passages in English and even some mad shouty / screamy sections that would make Klaus Blasquiz smile. I think he's pretty good.

The very short take, based on a superficial listen, is that this is like One Shot with male vox. Whether you like it will depend on your attitude to the vox, which are prominent. I like it.

Perhaps worth mentioning that this is the project led by drummer/composer Daniel Jeand'heur, formerly of One Shot (the fusion band otherwise made up of then-members of Magma).

I broke down and ordered the CD. What I heard on Spotify was really quite intriguing, and Daniel never let me down with an album yet.

This is one hell of a slab of Zeuhl. A concept album about the Lakota resistance against the US, to boot. Requires more listening, but I think a very stong album.

NB If you buy the CD you will also get the download of the album. I couldn't actually get the download of the whole album as a zipped folder with WAVs to work, but was able to download as individual tracks without problems (albeit lower res).

Not a single thing I ever heard by anyone involved in One Shot was any less than intriguing, so I'll have to check out this as well.

But I'll only be buying it if it sounds exactly like something I know from before, 'cause I don't wanna have to hear stuff which forces me to learn and/or realize anything new, different or other.

I'm really enjoying this one, it's definitely a One Shot vibe and certainly grooves. Very enjoyable.

Well it takes probably five or ten minutes to get and is free. But if you don't want to use it, fair enough.

Interesting, but it looks like it's not a Soleil Zeuhl release??

From the one bit I heard, yes, it's OS-sonics that pervaded

It's the concept behind Spotify/Spot-it-free (retribution of artistes sucks) that I don't agree with.
Bandcamp is where it's at, really.

I don't think I said that it was! The label is D3P Productions:

I don't like their business model, and the pittance they pay to artists, either. But my sole use of the service is to check out stuff and see if I want to buy it, and I don't see any possible moral objection to using it for that purpose. If I can't hear an album anywhere else then it's either listen on Spotify and potentially buy the album, take a punt without listening, or don't buy the album - so usually it would mean not buying the album.

I probably average buying around 150 to 200 CDs a year, and a good number of those direct from the artist or label or from Bandcamp, so my conscience is clear
