Just read Springer's response. Wow! Kind of lame, if you ask me. He would have run into his teammate and he was watching the outfielder and felt he would have been thrown out at 3rd.? He's a great player, nonetheless. Everybody makes mistakes and I think whoever wins the Series will benefit from errors like this.

right, we don't know if the same pitches would've been thrown with a runner on 3rd as opposed to 2nd. or what the batter would do. that said a runner on 3rd with 1 out scores about 65% of the time. getting that run would've tied it, then all they'd have to do is score 1 against the Nats bullpen. seems significant. of course hard to criticize Springer given how great he's been

This is the difference that pitching makes. The team with the better team batting average just got smoked by good pitching.

Looks like the Nats are a team of destiny.

    Momentum is real.

I had not known that Verlander became the first pitcher to lose his first five WS decisions.

Nobody ever argued that good pitching doesn't beat good hitting, especially in a series. It's pretty much the conventional wisdom. But, you still need both to get to the post-season.

Yeah, sort of found it amusing that Ed would resurrect that discussion.

Any way you slice it, Cole and Verlander ARE currently two of the top 5 pitchers in baseball. They just didn't execute. Kershaw has been one of the best of the past decade, but he's bungled his fair share of playoff appearances. It should also be pointed out that Max has had some pretty mediocre stats in the postseason. This is his best set of performances.

As you've said - it's baseball - anything can happen.

interesting that they decided to IBB Soto to get to Kendricks. I didn't know that the Astros had not issued a single IBB all season (which I think is smart! In the AL there's basically no reason to do it!), so its weird they decided to buck the trend in that moment. of course they pretty much got what they wanted from Kendricks anyway

Embarrassing outcome for the Astros. The game got away from them and then it was just baseball follies. The only fantastic performance while in an Astros uniform last night came from Simone Biles!

Yeah, what a roll the Nats are on but it really began on May 24. Because of their horrible start we mostly overlooked their FIVE full months of dominance.

    Record since May 23
    Nats 83-40
    Astros 81-44

yeah they faced a lot of bad luck & injuries those first 7 weeks

I think the fact that they lost Harper caused them to not be on most casual fans' radars. that said they were still #3 in payroll on the year

A Houston Astros executive accused of verbally accosting female journalists has been fired, the team said.

The team announced Thursday that Brandon Taubman, the Astros' assistant general manager, was fired for his postgame outburst aimed at female reporters following Saturday night's American League Championship Series victory.

good. though to me the more disturbing thing wasn't even that but rather the Astros' immediate attempt to smear the reporter and call her professionalism into question. had there not been multiple corroborating witnesses they probably would've just left it at that.

With that pitching the Dolphins could beat the Nats, and their offense sucks.

^ you ain't kidding. Astros mean business.

  23. #1248
'91 All home teams won their games. Same as in '80 something IIRC with the Cards.

So we a gonna have all home teams lose in a best of seven?

I love baseball because it's so weird. Just like life, eh?

Seems more like 1996 all over again. I expect the Astros to win game 6.

would love for the Nats to take it just so we can have the visiting-team-wins-every-game WS in which nobody goes home happy
