IMO, the Yankees' mass of injuries just one of those unlucky things that can happen occasionally. It's no secret that players are getting injured more now than ever. The Yankees have a few players with histories of injuries (Judge, Sanchez, Hicks, Bird) and they're all out right now. These are guys who are going to spend time on the DL every year; eventually, they were all going to get hurt at once. They did. They have a pitcher who is wily but nevertheless old and fat, and, unsurprisingly, he has already been on the DL. Tulowitski is old and has injury history. Gregorious' injury goes back to last year. Having Severino, Betances and Stanton also get injured is where the unluckiness just spiraled out.
As I said in previous posts - these things can happen. IMO it's no reflection on the organization's training methods or really anybody's fault. And when the Yankees get healthy, they'll be one of the best teams in baseball. But, it will likely be too late to do anything other than chase the final wild card, at that point.
I think they should be considering it. Some of these are freak injuries, but there seem to be too many that are strains and other indications of a lack of conditioning. I'm not sure what they mandate during the off-season, but baseball players make FAR too much money to be like the old days when they showed up to Spring training to work off their winter fat.
They will (hopefully) recover and play more up to the expectations. The Red Sox, on the other hand, are playing well below what they should be. But, they have a lot of talent (and some big holes) and should do better. But, I am certainly enjoying their suckiness. Repeating DOES bring some credibility that you can't get from a one-off championship. It's been more than 100 years since they repeated.

If the Sox sell enuff, maybe they might qualify for some of that sweet Luxury Tax money the Royals and Marlins will get for competitive balance purposes [emoji3]

Nathan Evaldi out for shoulder surgery. He's really talented, but I saw that signing as a risk given his history. This is something he's had before.

Yeah, he had the same operation last year and came back pretty strong obviously, but he also has two TJ surgeries in his history. All pitchers are at risk especially guys throwing upper 90's. Another big Sox loss is Pedroia. Even though he missed last year I was hoping his knee would hold up to provide great D and a solid bat. So far not so.
Sabbathia goes for 3000 Ks tonight.

The red-hot Clint Frazier just became #15 on the IL for the Yankees. Yet, they are on an 8-1 run with a patchwork team of no-names.

There is little chance that Frazier will stay on the Yankees, provided that he shows promise as more than a 4th outfielder, which appears to be the case. Judge is going nowhere and Stanton and Hicks are under big contracts. That's the Yankees' starting outfield. That's why they didn't sign Harper - there was no place to put him. A decent 4th outfielder is not hard to find, or of particularly great value to a team. If Frazier is actually going to be good, then he has no place on the Yankees and needs to be traded for a piece that they need more. And he will be, because the Yankees front office is normally smart (although they were obviously incredibly dumb by not trading Andujar and signing Machado. Andujar is likely done for the year, and Machado is having another All-Star season).
The Yankees are hoping that Frazier becomes the piece that lands them Bumgarner. We'll see.

It helps tremendously. The takeaway is not that this particular squad of Yankees is good (they're not), but that - due mostly to the implosion going on in Boston, because 14-10 against by far MLB's softest schedule is normally nothing to celebrate - the Replacement Yankees have not yet completely destroyed the season for when the real Yankees return. The Replacement Yankees will need to continue to win at a high rate of success against these bad teams for the forsseeable future, and they probably won't, but it's fair to acknowledge what they're doing as of right now. Talent-wise, they aren't much better than the bad teams that they've been playing, but - in the W/L column, anyway - they've dominated lately.
They beat the Red Sox, didn't they?
. Frazier is a low-value trade because of his injuries. They will stick with him. Gardner will be gone next season and Stanton will also play significant time at DH. Frazier will be the fourth outfielder until Stanton gets his annual injury.
BTW, your hero, Machado, is batting a whopping .244. He would never have been the right fit for that organization.
Look, I'm not suggesting this team, as it stands now, will make it to October. but, they are certainly showing that they can compete until the regulars return to the lineup. These are still pro teams they're playing against.

Frazier is potentially a high-value trade. His current injury is very minor and he'll be back in 10 days. His situation as of last year has been resolved. There is of course the possibility that he isn't actually as good as his early-season numbers, but they aren't far from what he was projected to eventually do when the Yankees obtained him. If he's better than a 4th outfielder, then the Yankees should not have him on the team. Stanton/Judge/Hicks is the outfield for years to come. Stanton isn't going to be a DH on any regular basis yet, because Sanchez and Voit (and others) will also get time at DH. if you have a good young player, you don't play him twice a week, especially when there's no end in sight for that. Of course the Yankees will trade him, assuming that Hicks and Stanton are healthy and ready to go within the next couple of months.
Rhys Hoskins got sweet revenge last night against the Mets' Jacob Rhame, who twice threw over Rhys' head the night before.

The Diamondbacks are doing surprisingly well, after trading away franchise player and fan favorite Paul Goldschmidt in the off season. We were expecting more along the lines of the Cardinals (football) of old, when Bill Bidwill kept the team payroll $12M below the cap, but still blamed a long succession of coaches for the team's failure.

Mets/BrewCrew this weekend was nutty. And it ends with both Yelich and Cano hurt.
And again, that wasn't a swing on Cano's HBP.
Round 2 next week.

The New York Nonames continue winning, despite losing two more players yesterday (although, for once, they don't appear to be major injuries). While they might not be playing first-place teams, they are still major league teams and NY is holding their own with one of the best records in the league. Totally strange.

What the New York nonames and Golden State Warriors illustrate is it's easy to win championships, if a team balloons their payroll well above the cap. The only reason the D-Backs won it all in 2001 is because original owner, Jerry Colangelo mortgaged the entire future of the team. To this day, they're still paying Randy Johnson's salary.
