Schizoid Man on NHK World's Blends program
Blends is a five minute program that airs on NHK World (NHK is Japan's main TV broadcaster, like their equivalent of the BBC or NBC). Blends is sort of an educational/musical program, where they spotlight a given Japanese instrument, say the koto or shamisen or shakuhachi. A brief explanation of the characteristics of the given instrument is detailed, followed by a musical performance of some song from the West. One time it was Stairway To Heaven, another time it was Africa (yes, the Toto song), yet another it was Imagine.
So today's show featured the electric shamisen, a "new instrument for the 21st century", and the chosen composition performed was 21st Century Schizoid Man, performed by electric shamisen, shakuhachi and Fender bass. They mainly focused on the middle unison thing, but they did it in a way that made it interesting for the 4 or so minutes of the piece. They really only played the guitar riff once, at the end, before launching into the final coda bit, where it speeds and ascends before ending. Sounded pretty cool, though.

Thanks for finding those Youtube links. I kinda figured Blends had to be on Youtube, but it was time for bed, and I didn't feel like going down another rabbit hole when I needed to be going to bed so I could get up early for owrk.
