Thanks in part to my dad getting me "Live in Chicago" last Christmas and reading some of JKelman's All About Jazz essays on King Crimson 9.0, I've been on quite the Robert Fripp bender.
I realized I enjoyed a King Crimson lineup I had earlier dismissed--the 00-03 double duo, bought Thrakkatak, and got into Sylvian/Fripp.
The last few days I have spent a lot of time with Exposure and (No Pussyfooting).
I'd heard some of the Soundscape stuff before, but not much if any of the Frippertronics stuff.
The sound of it surprised me--it seemed to be rather conventional soloing with that gorgeous sustain tone that he had back in the mid 70s. I had earlier assumed that Frippertronics and Soundscapes were just euphemisms for the same exact thing. It is as if someone cut out Fripp's gorgeous soloing from the live versions of Exiles and put it on an unobtrusive backing of loops. (The Exiles from Providence on the Great Deceiver is my favorite, for the record.)
I love it.
What Frippertronics stuff is available?
What Soundscape stuff is especially worth a listen?
