Roger Dean's Scarab / NASA Insight Mars landing

Congrats to NASA for the InSight Mars landing. Roger Dean foresaw this back in the 1970s.

It is a piece called "Scarab." It appears in Deans' book "Views" and is also available as a poster. (Rhea and I have a copy.) An early version of the image was originally done for fun and was later used on the back cover of Motown's "Chartbusters Volume 6." (A different blue-ish piece of Scarab art was used for the cover.)

From "Views" - "This picture is probably unique in Dean's oeuvre for being the only time that he has ever re-drawn a picture after it as been used because he was not satisfied with it. On this occasion he re-drew the idea about a month after the cover was finished, and the result was the picture [published by Big O as one of a pair of posters]." The poster is called Bug / Scarab Landing.

Uncanny! But I'm sure that Roger did okay for himself.

    Very cool.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally
