And with the most rewarding bonus track experience ever.
Never has a bonus track been such a massive gift as Stabbing At Air.

Steve Gore spent two whole years on this one song!
It really could have been an album of its own but was used to add even more to this classic.

The approach to bonus tracks really has changed over time, huh? I can't imagine working up new tracks for bonuses of an older album. I guess before internet, there wouldn't have been any way to get older tracks once the limited run of records are gone, so reissues like this would have been a lot more important, and would make more sense why previously released tracks like Sent Flying and Bones Chorale appear here remixed too.

Continuing work on 'The Strange Case of Steve' and it's really shaping up now. Mixing some contributions from Dave Newhouse on saxes and woodwinds, and gearing up to record bass and drums on a few pieces! Very excited about how these pieces are turning out

For anyone on Spotify, I've set up a RR History 101 playlist, going through the history of Reporters chronologically! I've got most of the albums up there on streaming now.
Can check that out here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7d...RvawzFWM-3ZccA

And just in general, in case anybody has missed it, this live release recorded in high school in 1976 is just crazy! Never really ended up recording much of their music like this but the line up of organ, bass and drums KILLS with super complex Canterbury tunes! https://rascalreporters.bandcamp.com...park-high-1976

I grabbed that high school show the day it came out - and man o man - I was blown away at the Egg flavor it has - and the skillz! I really enjoy that release a ton.

Attention audiophiles, archivists and Reporters enthusiasts!

The digital Happy Accidents release on Bandcamp has levelled up to a somewhat XTRA-DELUXE edition, as it's now been updated to include the original 1988 vinyl LP mix of the album as bonus tracks, transferred from my pristine copy of the LP in 96kHz/24bit resolution.

Not only is this available with new purchases of the album, but it is also available to anyone who has previously bought the album on Bandcamp by simply re-downloading.

Some very significant mix alterations from the vinyl mix to the CD mix, so well worth checking if you are mainly familiar with one or the other!

New video for 'One of Our Dogs is Missing'! Edited by Bajr

    And some release news:

I'm working on a remaster of 1980's 'We're God' from the original master tapes - the original cassette mixes! - for release on Bandcamp, with a remaster of the 1996 CD mixes to accompany it.

Some very interesting alternative mixes from the original tapes that you may not be familiar with if you've only heard the CD re-release. Aiming to put together the ultimate fan edition of this one!

Hey everyone, wanted to let ye know about the new remaster of We're God!

    it's OUT NOW! only €7 https://rascalreporters.bandcamp.com...-2019-remaster

Rascal Reporters' 1980 sophomore release 'We're God', digitally remastered in 2019 from the original master tapes - with higher clarity and fidelity than ever before! For release on our Bandcamp page - https://rascalreporters.bandcamp.com/

Hear Stevie Kretzmer's original piano-only version of 'Solomon Music' (with audible piano stool squeek!), 'Cannonball Adderley' as it stood before its 1997 re-construction, Gore's scream of relief at the end of 'Fidget Stomp' as he completes a successful take, and all the other intricacies of this piece of Reporters history. Featuring the original 1980 version of the album, as it was before its re-edit in 1997 for its CD release, this is the first time this version of the album has been made available digitally, and the first time the album has been available in this quality!

Bonus tracks include a fully remastered version of the 'Guns for Jerry's Kids/Beatrice' single along with other specialities from the era, and the download comes with full scans of the original 20-page cassette booklet & 1981's 7" 'Guns for Jerry's Kids/Beatrice' single with lyrics & liner notes

I think it's particularly interesting being able to read all the lyrics for these tunes. And even on the ones where the only voices are taped dialogue recordings, those are notated!

The energy of the fresh faced Reporters in those two statements, the one at the start and the one from Bill Andrews at the end - I love that amount of 'fuck you' energy haha

Jon Davis over at Expose Online has very kindly posted a review of our latest work 'Redux, Vol. 1'!

    http://www.expose.org/index.php/arti...-vol.-1-2.html

In the annals of eccentric, complicated modern music, Rascal Reporters deserve a special place if they don’t have it already. With a history stretching back to the 70s and a catalog of strange music that defies categorization, let alone comprehension, it’s probably safe to say they’re outliers on pretty much any scale you could invent.

Redux, Vol. 1 features a number of tracks that were in the archives of original Rascals Steve Kretzmer and Steve Gore but had never been completed, mainly because the music was just too complex for them to overdub the finishing parts with the technology they had at the time. Feeling the music was too good to remain unreleased, surviving Rascal Kretzmer got together with James Strain to put the finishing touches on the pieces, and this is the result.

It starts out with “Improv Cost Me My Job,” which is less than a minute of keyboards and drums full of odd rhythms and disjointed melodies. Then we dive into “Hubert Greenery Peck,” just shy of fourteen minutes of complex and precise music that goes through so many changes you lose track after a couple of minutes. The fact that Strain was able to add drum parts to this recording after the keyboards were already in place is downright amazing. But beyond the technical feat involved in its creation, it’s a fun piece that should appeal to fans of tricky RIO-ish music like Thinking Plague, Forever Einstein, and Zappa’s later instrumental work.

“One of Our Dogs Is Missing” is similar in style within a more compact timeframe, and might be my favorite in this set. Some of its melodies have a fanfare-like quality that reminds me of something Hatfield & the North might have done. “Egos Explode” is a piece left behind after Steve Gore’s death that Strain tackled in the same manner. The set finishes off with “Her Kind,” a vocal track sung by Kretzmer. It’s somewhat less complex than some of the instrumental excursions, but is far from an ordinary pop song, and for some reason brings to mind Tony Banks' solo work.

Fans of complex music that maintains a sense of fun should check out this new kind of Rascal Reporters album, and will probably be primed for Volume 2 when it comes out.

    Ridin' On A Bummer - 2020 mix!

This seminal 1984 Rascal Reporters release is seeing its SECOND remix & remastering job of the past 20 years, but the first time it's being done digitally. As a result of the surgical techniques employed, this mix of the album presents as less harsh sonically and much more balanced, allowing the more roughly-recorded side B of the record to shine in a way it has never done before - particularly tracks like 'Barrensphere' and 'Without Passion Or Peace' are a revelation, and are almost like hearing the songs again for the first time! Also included here for the first time on the album tracklist is the full-length version of 'Psychlops'. As bonus tracks are the classic 'Paper Love' and a dressed up piano version of 'Psychlops'.

This is available now for any Patreon supporters on the $10 tier, which gives advanced access to new releases such as this.

It is available for pre-order on Bandcamp now for $7 and will be released on March 6th!

Wanted to update this thread to say that we've got a new release out today, Redux, Vol. 2: Rascals Revenge and the Great Reset.

    https://rascalreporters.bandcamp.com...-great-reset-2

Just in time for Bandcamp Friday, oh and we have CDs available also!

This release compiles many epic length pieces, and we're super proud of being able to put out completed versions of these songs that were lingering in the vaults unfinished for too long! Some of these pieces are the most intricate pieces of songwriting Steve K has ever produced, which is precisely why it took so long for them to finally be completed

Gorgeous artwork provided courtesy of Dario D'Alessandro and mastering courtesy of the illustrious Bob Drake.
