    Oh, this is good!

A tad reminiscent of Breznev Fun Club or even a big-band Rascal Reporters with some Stabat Akish added. Some similar sources, I suspect.

Funny, I just got Lost + Found Vol. 1 by Breznev Fun Club in the mail this week, after seeing them compared somewhere to Picchio Dal Pozzo. Any music in this vein is most welcome!

Seriously astounding album, and it seems to be outside the usual circles for avant-prog, or at least I don't many / any ties to other work!

Anyone know more about this artist?

I found it ambitious over-all (good) and not that enjoyable (bad). YMMV.

It's ok. A bit too Manhattan Transfer at times.

    I can see why, though.

It isn't what would usually be called avant-prog; if I had to pigeonhole it, it would definitely land in the "Jazz" section and equally definitely not in the "Rock" section. It fits best there, I think, even though it's mostly written out, includes little improvising, and has Northettes-like girl-group vocals almost all the way through. There's also a bit of Louis Andriessen, specifically De Stijl (which presents an unusual combination of classical Minimalism, jazz, and, R&B), in it.

They're from Chicago and several friends and acquaintances of mine are band members. I've been aware of them for a good while , though I've yet to see them live. The guitar player, Chris Siebold (who some of you may know from Kick The Cat) played me some of their stuff over a decade ago. I think it's very cool stuff and I have no problem with the vocals.

They've put out two more of their albums on Bandcamp now as a double! https://johnelmquistshardartgroop.ba...t-double-album

    Greetings,

I've really been enjoying this stuff! Was very happy to see the addition of their The Art of Affliction and the Science of Feeling Groovy / Chokepoint double CD yesterday and only hope that more of their music will be made available for sale before too long. In the meantime, much of their other music can be streamed here (under the "Albums" menu item):

    https://hardartgroop.com/

Still making my way through everything there, but enjoying the vast majority of it quite a bit.

    Cheers,

    Alan

the second half of the set here is a new 7-part piece from Elmquist with a stripped down version of the hardart groop:

"Hag of a Few is a new small group manifestation of John Elmquist’s HardArt groop. The second set will be a new, seven-part involuntary manslaughter ballad: Gustav and the Church Truck."

Also, they put out a great album last year! https://johnelmquistshardartgroop.ba...m/i-own-an-ion

It's pretty good, and certainly better than the previous one for my tastes but it's still the vocals I'm struggling with, think its a pass.
