Was it Kraan that played at NEARfest, or am I confusing them with another band that starts with a K?

They played both Progday and Nearfest.
Thanks. Actually, it's Trettioåriga Kriget I was thinking of - I knew there was a K in there somewhere. I was at that NEARfest (2009), but wasn't so much into Trettioåriga Kriget. But it was probably me, and the fact that I'd never heard them before. I'd also never heard Quantum Fantay or Beardfish who played before them, so I think my brain was running on fumes (which was fine for PFM who played after them).
Anyway, sorry for the digression.
And the vocals are probably the weekest part with Kraan. I've gotten used to it though and they don't bother me. but when I heard Wiederhören for the first time, it was the vocals that diminished my appreciation.
His voice doesn't bother me as well, it's just I can do without. There are some people whose vocals I dislike more, like Eddie Jobson or Gayle Moran.
I would look for the Bassball album as well.

"Kraan at the Old Grey Whistle Test, 1976. Introduced by Bob Harris, over 7 minutes of their all time classic "Nam Nam"."
It was the only time l remember that happening as well! They had the crowd going apeshit!
Their set was at one of the only 2 indoor Progdays, l have always dreamed of the mayhem that would have occurred if they had played at Storybook. And all of them were sweet, no-ego guys. I remember when we were setting up l told Helmut Hattler how much l dug his album "Bassball" and he looked at me for like 5 seconds like l was a Martian...then he shook his head and smiled. He knew this was gonna be a fun gig.

Today 50 years ago Kraan released their first album.
I've had Kraan come up more often in my Pandora shuffle lately - so maybe something from Flyday will pop up today...

The Got Krautrock 2 bonus features DVD that accompanies the Krautrock 2 documentary features KRAAN live in all its splendor. The documentary itself features interviews with Helmut Hattler and Jan Friede and recounts the story of the band and its albums. Other bands highlighted include Amon Düül II, Guru Guru, Xhol Caravan, Witthüser and Westrupp, Popol Vuh and from the current scene, Electric Orange.
Check the exhilarating performance of Helmut on this trailer:
Those first three Kraans are absolutely essential to any Krautrock collection. A monster of a band - nobody did it their way. They play with impeccable virtuosity and at the same time with disdainful to any conventions grit and humor.
Hellmut Hattler turns 70 tomorrow april 12.
Still very active.
