    Chamber Prog FTW?

Both Beatrix Players and Iamthemorning released killer albums in the last 2 years, Iamthemorning has a new music film on the way, and now Marcela Bovio is releasing her second piano-strings-vocals album. Is Chamber Prog the new big subgenre? Here's hoping...

The concept of "chamber (progressive) rock" has already existed actively for 40 years and has usually been applied to artists radically different from what's suggested here (although they're nice enough) - so it'd hardly be a "next thing". There are literally dozens of threads on this subject in the PE archives.

Don't usually think of iamthemorning as a Chamber Prog band, the bands that usually come to mind are Univers Zero, Art Zoyd, Aranis, Julverne, Far Corner, Pikapika Teart and the like. Generally Avant/RIO style style music featuring Classical instruments, violin, cello, bassoon, oboe, etc.

It was 'Prog Magazine' who first outed IAtM as purported "chamber prog". In one of their mandatory runs on allthings ever attributed to Wilson's K-Scope label. UZero, AZoyd, Julverne and those other numerous acts responsible for creating said style aren't particularly well known in those quarters - too strange, too alien, and worst of all, too "obscure".
