I don't own any of these on CD, so I'll be getting this.

Too much stuff I already own. I mean geez, the Roscoe Mitchell Bells for the South Side double set only came out last year; don't feel like buying it again already.

Does this box have a theme? Seems a bit of a "grab bag". Some nice material on here, though.

It seems to be everything ECM has released by the AEC, solo albums by AEC members, and collaborations with AEC members (the New Directions albums have Lester Bowie).

Alright, so every AEC related release on ECM. Makes more sense now.

Nice compilation. There’s some really great albums amongst that group. I have everything I need already though. Given ECM’s history of releasing smaller box sets, it’s a bit of a surprise to see something this comprehensive. It’s a great price for the unfamiliar who are fans of the style.

I’m still hoping ECM gets around to releasing a few items yet to be on CD.

Very tempting indeed, at that price it works out to little for than $5 per CD.

I have all the actual AEC albums except The Third Decade, but the only one of the others I have is Nine To To Get Ready. So if one thinks of it as buying 16 CD's, if Amazon is selling it for $110US, that's still less than 7 bucks per disc. Pre-ordered!

Edit: I just realized this set also includes Jack DeJohnette's Live In CHicago, so I have 6 of the CD's already. But if you're thinking of it as a 15 CD set, you're still talking less than $7.50, PLUS a 200 page book!

Speaking of DeJohnette, I hope ECM reissues his 70's albums Untitled and New Rags one of these days.

Would love to have those as well. I've been listening to them on YouTube. I'll be glad to have the New Directions albums in the box.

I'm still hoping(won't hold my breath) that tapes will be unearthed of DeJohnette's short stay in the early (circa 65/66) AACM.He played with Muhal Richard Abrams and others, and led his own groups.

I've been waiting for them to post this. They have good prices but even this surprised me.

I'm completely ignorant on the Art Ensemble of Chicago. What is the best starting point?

I'd start with a few of the sessions they recorded in Paris in 1969 as a quartet(before Don Moye joined).
