1971-1979 The Band Years is the first of five planned compilation albums, one for each decade of Eddie Jobson's outstanding career as an award-winning composer and internationally acclaimed keyboardist and electric violinist. This first double-CD release features tracks from Jobson's band years in the '70s, including his work as a member of Curved Air, Roxy Music, Frank Zappa's band and UK, the progressive-rock supergroup he co-founded in 1977 with John Wetton, Allan Holdsworth and Bill Bruford. Classic tracks include Curved Air's "Metamorphosis," written by Jobson at the age of 17; Roxy Music's "Out of the Blue;" and UK's "In The Dead of Night." Presented in a 6-panel digipack with an 8-page booklet featuring personal stories for each track.

The series is a great idea! But what on earth will they put on the 90s and 00s albums??

As for this one, yeah, the overreliance on UK makes this redundant for most of us. But I'll be the first in line to buy the 80s discs, which I assume will have most of the Green Album on it.

Like someone else wrote, I'm essentially buying this for the 4 unreleased tracks especially the Ferry track w/Fripp; gotta have the Ferry track with Jobson and Fripp. "Fripp..." (spoken in tranced out zombie-like voice).

^I remember a few people talking in hushed tones about 'As The World Turns' as being one of Ferry's best. I recall mention of it being on (as is often the case) some obscure Japanese CD.

Interesting compilation, has all of Danger Money except the weakest track.

guess we gotta bite the bullet and buy this one to ensure those come... fortunately I don't actually have any of the non UK stuff so almost a full disc new for me.

odd that they changed the track order on the danger money cuts.

this might have been a nice opportunity to put in some of the UK single edits and the in the dead of night rerecording which were left off the ultimate collectors box...

I'm up for anything Jobson and I hope the later discs have more unreleased material, including from Legacy... but so much from UK and Danger Money seems pointless. What Jobson fan interested in buying this doesn't own UK? He could've at least picked more obscure UK material.

At least two tracks that ended up on Danger Money were in the works with Bruford line up.. I suspect there were tapes of that before they played them live.

No price yet but if it's reasonable then I'm in.
I don't have either of the UK discs and have been waiting for a sensibly priced rerelease so I can get them.
This seems to be a way of getting the majority of those two albums without shelling out silly money (just 2 tracks from the debut and one from DM are missing).
I have the CA and RM recordings and almost certainly the Zappa (I'd be amazed if this live recording isn't already out there!)

Some sources say the A sessions were in 1979 but yeah, the release date was 1980. But if UK would have released something in 1980, volume I would have stopped that year.
This indicates that the "Green Album" will occupy most of volume II - is like Henry said about UK LPs that a Jobson fan already owns it anyway.

But the "classic" Tull lineup was still in place, touring, in Winter/Spring 1980. So A couldn't have been until after that.

Regarding Green Album, I don't have it on CD because whenever I've checked it has been very highly priced. So this set might be a nice way to get it--I hope it is the whole thing!

'80s: There's A and Jobson's two solo albums, The Green Album and Theme of Secrets. I think The Green Album is much less widely known than UK, and Theme of Secrets is pretty obscure. Still, a 2CD set made out of 3 albums is going to feel odd. But there's also The Pink Album, the sequel Jobson was working on and never released. He's talked of releasing that in recent years, so maybe we'll get a chunk of material. There's also I believe 3 tracks on Piano One (from the label who released Theme of Secrets). He also began working on soundtracks in the '80s, so there may be lots of material there.

'90s: Jobson didn't release anything in the '90s AFAIR. However, he was deep into soundtrack work, particular on Nash Bridges. But the '90s is also when he recorded Legacy, the UK reunion project (with Wetton singing) that became a solo project (with Aaron Lippert singing). Bruford, Levin and Hackett guest. Just over 10 minutes of the project was later released in 2000: see http://www.relayer35.com/Yescography/voicesoflife.htm That would be my hope: 1 CD of Legacy, 1 CD of score work.

'00s: He's still doing scoring. This is also the decade of UKZ, although he could include the whole EP and not take up much space. The first UK reunion shows also happened.

'10s: What's going to be on this compilation? He's released a lot of live material, UK and solo, so does this just take from Curtain Call and Four Decades? Did those piano improvs he was doing get released?

It's never been clear to me (or to anyone, probably) how much Wetton actually recorded for the project (it's supposed to have petered out when Wetton turned up for the main vocal sessions with little or none of the lyrics he was supposed to have written - so clearly many of the vocals never got recorded at all), and if Jobson kept any of them or deleted them.

In any case, the prospect of ever hearing much Legacy with Wetton on vocals seems very dim indeed.

I'd be happy with the Lippert version, though...

I would've liked to have seen some of the tracks from the Phil Manzanera albums (Diamond Head, Listen Now) that he played on in place of the UK tracks. Maybe he couldn't license them?

There was also Tull's live laserdisc Slipstream from that time period. Would be kinda cool to pull some audio from that for this set (the live "Heavy Horses" would be pretty cool). I have The Green Album (still an all-time Top 5 album for me) on CD but it could use a remaster. And I would kill for something from The Pink Album.

He also had a track ("Sketch for Orchestra #4") on the KORG 01W sampler CD in the early 90s (a very cool disc with lots of proggy keysman) and it would be cool to have that on there since that CD is long out of print.

Indeed.

Jobson has said the Lippert version was basically finished, so I still hope for all of that to get released. I'll be happy if we get anything more from it (over the 3 tracks on Voices of Life).
