This Suprised Me: Roine Stolt's The Flower King - MANIFESTO OF AN ALCHEMIST, Nov 2018

INSIDE OUT MUSIC The Flower Kings Manifesto Of An Alchemist.jpg

Not sure what to expect since there are no samples yet, but I gather from the Inside Out description that they went into a studio and jammed some new tracks. I'm assuming the band name is as it is because Tomas Bodin is not involved and likely owns part of the trademark of The Flower Kings. For my part, Bodin has a lot to do with the sound of the band because of his composition and arranging skills. It won't sound the same as the FK that I love but any new music from Stolt and Co is welcome for this lover of sympho.

Thanks for the heads up. This should be interesting. Btw, the description in the link was talking about Desolation Rose. I didn’t see anything referencing this album.

This was mentioned in the general Flower Kings thread but I do think this album deserves its own thread. So thanks!

I'm excited about it - I think Roine wanted to make a bookend piece to the original The Flower King solo album. I really doubt any legal issues would prevent him from naming this The Flower Kings. But I think he did understand about TFK legacy and possible fan feelings about a Flower Kings without Tomas. Maybe this keeps the door open for Tomas' return at some point?

Actually I would have no problems with this being called The Flower Kings - but this does seem to be more of a Roine Stolt solo album - we will see what the writing credits look like. Maybe there will be a full band album later with Zach and Mirkko after the tour is done - I hope so. Nothing prevents a return of Tomas later on (presuming his hearing/tinnitus issues are better)

Not really thrilled by the artwork on this one. (seems like a poorer version of Unfold the Future) Would have liked something that referenced that first album. Another original painting by Roine.

Ok, I’m convinced. You speak the truth

So promos are out there? Please post your review when finished. Would love to get an idea on how this holds up to his recent work from BoE on.

Unfortunately, Roine posted that link after I'd already pre-ordered from Insideout, but whatever, lol.

For this one I'm resisting listening to samples or clips. Want to hear the whole thing at one time.

I listened to it once, but I think I also am going to wait for the release to listen to it again. Promising so far though!

    Sounds pretty good.

I'm going to refrain from listening until I can do what I do with all Flower Kings albums: Listen to it from beginning to end multiple times. The only proper way to enjoy such music.

I listened to about half of that new track. I really like it. More than any recent Roine stuff back to Desolation Rose. The production has a more immediate/in the studio and the flow is good. Anderson/Stolt was just such a huge record. This seems more focused. Really looking forward to this.

Can't wait to hear this myself. I'm keeping an open mind, but I can't help but to be excited. I was disappointed with the last two FK albums (still good, but disappointing). Since this isn't actually a FK album, I can hopefully listen more objectively.
