New Dead Can Dance coming in Nov - DIONYSUS

All about the new album: https://www.musicglue.com/deadcandance/about

    Preorders galore: https://www.musicglue.com/deadcandance/

There's also a tour coming in Europe (hopefully the US will get a visit sometime later in the coming year)...

No samples online that I can see, but probably sometime soon...

    Enjoy!

Wow, thats a name from the past!

No idea what they have been upto since the early nineties. I still have a couple of their cds. Must dig them out. Its been too long.

Have they done anything noteworthy lately?

They had a reunion album about 6-7 years ago that was pretty good (Anastasis was the name, I believe), and the supporting world tour was successful.

Lots of stuff separately of course...Gerrard has done a zillion collaborations, and Perry did a pretty excellent solo album called Ark; anyone who likes Anastasis would probably enjoy Ark as much.

Anastasis was good, the live show I witnessed was good but I don't think it added anything substantial to their past.

I am not expecting much out of them anymore. I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong.

I honestly can't disagree with this. I'm glad they did it, and I'm glad to have seen the tour, but I don't think it was a career peak by any stretch. At this point, and especially based on the description from their site, it sounds like this is mostly Perry driving things with Gerrard along for the ride. Not necessarily bad, but I'm not expecting Serpent's Egg II either.

Good news. The new album is indeed described as Perry's brainchild, without any mention of Gerrard.
Perry will reach a wider audience with this than he would if it was billed as a solo project, and everyone is pleased to hear some new music from DCD, including me. I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking but the conceptual nature of the project is interesting.

This news has made my day.
I don't expect much from the new album (the previous one, Anastasis, didn't impress me much) but having the opportunity to see them again live next year is priceless!

"Anastasis" in 2012, which was good but not essential.

I thought that Ark was much better than Anastasis.

Fun fact, Ark's opening track Babylon was actually performed first as a DCD song on their prior reunion tours. The live releases they made from those shows includes a pretty good version.

Ark's last track Crescent was also performed by DCD on that tour.

The album came out yesterday - I gave it a couple of listens in the car... and was somewhat disappointed. First of all, it's not DCD as we know it. The sound has changed to a much more ambient one. Vocals of Lisa Gerrard are not prominent - in fact, I have the impression they're barely audible (by her standards, of course). To me, this music lacks focus, drama and direction.
I still hope the album grows on me...
Silver lining - somehow I appreciate their previous album "Anastasis" much more now...

In Echoes John's review, apparently not all the female vox are Gerrard; some bits are just samples of female voices.

Sounds like DCD is morphing into a Perry solo vehicle with Gerrard as a guest. Can't honestly say I'm surprised, in many ways I already thought Anastatis felt far closer to Perry's "Ark" album than anything DCD had done.

Having said that...as a fan of Perry's solo work I'll probably be happy with it. Haven't gotten my shipping notice yet but am guessing it'll be here sometime next week.

I like Brendan's solo albums too, but this one just doesn't quite match them... IMO, of course.
