(one persons take on) The Random Radar Story

Last Saturday, 9/1, I was on a local radio show to specifically discuss Random Radar.

It was HUGE fun and made me stretch my memory a lot, as I tried to set the scene for people who cannot imagine how hard of an undertaking it was.

You can hear the show archived below (hit the BOTTOM play button to play ‘Lost Treasures’.

If you ever wondered what circuitous path a 15 year old must take to end up running Wayside Music and Cuneiform Records, this is where it started.

Steve, do you know where in that show you come in? Or is it the whole hour or so?

    Jed

It starts within the 1st three minutes of the on-air show (there's three minutes of the previous show before the DJ starts by playing the Muffins) and I yack (or rekkids are played) for the entire hour.

That was great! Interesting to hear samples of a couple of the releases that are missing from my collection (Viktor Koncept, Mars Everywhere).

You must have had some kind of distribution beyond taking records around to local stores, though, since copies found their way to the west coast...if I remember right, I got my copy of the Random Sampler at Licorice Pizza in San Diego. On the day after Christmas 1977.

    hi Michael

    1. The Mars E track was the one on the Random Sampler.

    2. Yes, we had 'real' distribution and we did make it into shops all over the USA and even somewhat, all over the world.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I sure did!

best part for me was at 32:00, when he starts talking about all the famous people who he thought must've played in the backyard. That made me laugh really hard.

Great radio interview and radio show.
Kudos to the station and the DJ for making it happen.
