    The Marble Index and Desertshore.

Two albums of disquieting bliss.Music that is truly "sui generis".

The Marble Index, Desertshore and The End are those to get.
She was truly one of a kind.

    Simply fantastic albums.
I am surprised this is the first time she is mentioned here, her voice + JC production == progressive.

I love both Marble Index & Chelsea Girl. I remember a friend saying when the "Banana" VU album was released that Nico was "Marlene Dietrich on heroin".

I've only heard The Marble Index but it is certainly unique.

And I agree that her work with Cale mostly defines her.

I just read a ‘character study’ of her from the keyboardist in her band for the last 8 years. “Songs They Never Play On The Radio”.

It’s very depressing and a little bit funny. She doesn’t really come off well, although he grows to appreciate her in a weird way.

    Cale comes off quite poorly.

Yeah, she's good. Have Chelsea Girl and VU&N. I really like her voice.
Perhaps I should pick up Marble Index. There seem to be a few fans of that record on here. I wasn't aware Cale worked on it.

Mine as well. Hates her with a passion, and the legend/stories about her certainly didn't help (like shooting heroine into her kid). She flatly refused to see the recent movie about her, though I'd not seriously suggested we go out to see it. .

I myself have really a hard time getting into her music (I never get a crave for it), but once in a while, it works (like chancing it via the radio). The only album I own is the June 1 1974 live affair (where she does an unpleasant The End, but the rest is OK)

I guess it's time for a reassessment some day, because Udi's link did not make me run for cover.

I guess Mr Tr(L)ou Du Cul himself was contagious enough to communicate to his bandmates.

seriously, that whole VU crowd and AW/NY scene never sounded or seemed sympathic to me, whether or not they were groundbreaking (which they were).

Never heard of that book - just found it on Amazon
    - is there any mention of Craig Ferguson (yes THE Craig Ferguson) who played drums with her for a short while in her later years.
