Huh? Barry Manilow? Are you talking about one of their great iconic songs, Can't Get it Out of My Head?
I've been listening to that gem of an album since it came out in 1974, and never once have I thought "Barry Manilow" when listening to their prime 70s work. Just because its a "ballad" or a "popular" tune? To me ELO successfully accomplished their mission of playing Beatles inspired rock and pop filtered through an orchestral prism, influenced obviously by Sgt Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour, Abbey Road etc. Do you think Bobby Goldsboro or Bobby Vinton when you hear great Beatles tunes like Eleanor Rigby, Yesterday, She's Leaving Home etc? I guess we really hear music differently in a lot of areas. Eldorado pulled off the Sgt Pepper/Days of Future Passed like linked orchestral concept album beautifully imo.
