Perry’s voice does not sound bad there, less soaring, but still recognizable and not as different as say Bob Seger’s.

this is a must buy. Steve Perry wasn't just the voice that catapulted Journey, his writing, production and vision was something that Journey counldn't re-created.
never got his first album, but For The Love Of Strange Medicine was a great CD. he recorded another CD Against The Wall which was never released.
many of those songs appeared on b-sides and his Greatest Hits+ CD.

His voice sounds really good for his age. I think it deserved a better song than this though.

Ha, I didn't know that, but it's true! So he recorded both the standard "You Belong to Me" and his own "She Belongs to Me."

The lyrics certainly are unfortunate. That aside, he actually sounds a lot better than I expected. Hard to believe he's 69 years old! I wish him all the best.

Here's a new interview that sheds some light on the album making process and even a pic of the whole album cover (that pic keeps going).

His voice sounds fine, all things considered. Musically it's about what I'd expect from Steve. As far as the lyrics go, well, he did write "born and raised in South Detroit".

    Years ago, I disappeared.

There were many reasons, but mainly…
My Love for Music had suddenly left me.
I knew that simply stopping, was what I had to do.
If music was ever to return to my heart,
then and only then I would figure out what to do.
    If not… so be it,
for I had already lived the dream of dreams.

    Many years passed.

One day, I began sketching some musical ideas
with the creative freedom that I was the
only one who would ever hear them.
    One song led to many.

My Love for Music had returned.

    Then another beautiful thing happened.
    I found Love.
My precious Kellie gave me a life
    I never knew I had.

I lost her December of 2012.

I now deeply understand the meaning of:
“’It’s better to have Loved and Lost,
Than to have never Loved at All.”

    May of 2015,
    I began recording.
These songs are special to me.
I respectfully ask that you please listen to them,
And whatever they make you feel,
    I thank you for listening.

    Sincerely,

    Steve Perry

Call me a total sap, but reading that interview along with Perry’s message above has got me borderline teary.

I wasn't affected quite as strongly, but you could tell that it's sincere - especially after you read that interview.

Although, I don't believe that was his original lyric.

Wow, and people diss guys like Phil Collins and McCartney for being overly maudlin....

It's not like Perry is any more guilty of bad lyrics than anyone else his age. That Santana reunion album (with Schon and Rolle) was rife with wince inducing cliches.

He seems to be making the rounds. He was interviewed on the local classic rock station this morning and said pretty much the same things he's said in previously-posted interviews.

He was asked about touring the album, and said that he's been discussing it, but no plans have been made yet. He didn't seem to want to get into that yet. I get the idea that he's dipping his toes back into the music business very slowly and deliberately.

First review of the new album (albeit the 10-track version) that I have seen so far:

There were a couple of gems each on those first three albums but no, they aren't the prog masterpieces that some make them out to be. If Perry was indeed foisted upon the band by record company execs it was a business decision that turned out a bit more lucrative than a forth mediocre proggy jam album would have been.
Compact Disk brought high fidelity to the masses and audiophiles will never forgive it for that
