    Jean Cohen-Solal

Musique et Instruments Insolites: Flutes Libres
    Captain Tarthopom

Time to bust out these two suckers again. Gonna revisit and re-spew my findings. I always liked them but it's been a while now and let's see how they fare with fresh but slightly moldy (progressive) ears. I got these way back when from Wayside for a very cheap price. Are you reading this Mr Fripp? Would you like a cuppa?

    Fans?

I have one of them on CDR. Haven't listened to it in ages, but I recall it as being quite good.

So I'm going CRAZY looking for my Captain Tarthopom CD, and all I can find is the Flutes Libres CD. Started to look for used copies, Wayside, ReR, Discogs, etc then I finally realize that my CD has both albums on it - a two-fer! Wow. I need a drink. I guess I don't have to buy it after all..........

The single CD including both Flutes Libres and Captain can still be found cheap and a must have if you like psychedelic/experimental/Floydish/avant-garde early seventies french instrumental music. Of course, it was cheaply produced and aged poorly but that's the main reason why I like and recommend these records.

Captain Tarthopom (what a silly tittle !) is the best of the two and has been re-issued recently on vinyl.

... and for a similar trip you should also try Alain Markusfeld's "Le Monde en Etages"

I bought these on CD back when Israel-based MIA Records was a thing. I remember it being great stuff, but I wish I could locate my copy...

There will be a vinyl reissue of these on Souffle Continu, I think.

I reviewed those two albums whebn I introduced them in PA's database, but haven't heard them since.

    Gave them both 4 stars.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
