Covers that surpass the original *masterpieces*

I've never been too moved by covers but Fairport Convention's take on LC's Suzanne has wormed its way deep into my skull for 3 days now. Love the muted guitar riff (Fugazi?) and it works incredibly well as a duet. Denny is stunning as always. I'm gonna argue that this surpasses the original masterpiece. Any other examples on Youtube that can be added to this "link" thread?

America by YES is really the one, isn't it? I'm also surprisingly fond of Blue Murder's cover of ItchyCoo Park.

No idea whom Purcell had in mind singing this one, but this one
    is the best version ever:

Oh, definitely this, and all the rest of the RW covers.
This song has also great covers from Cassiber and Fire Orchestra (currently only in their live shows, together with an excellent cover of Blue Crystal Fire incorporated in their last piece, Arrival)

First one that came to mind for me was Judas Priest "Diamonds And Rust".

Great Dutch prog-metal band, Lemur Voice, did this cover of Micheal Jackson's "Beat It" on their 1999 release, "Divided".

At 1:02 and 2:22, there are some very cool Jazz breaks, including some nice muted trumpet playing.

Yes, I have seen Cassiber covering it in Copenhagen many years ago.

    I like this version too:

I'm no fan of ABBA, but I like this

    When the golden voice appeared.
She was gold alright, but then so is rust.

    Motley Crue.......Helter Skelter.

It's not better than the original but if it was a Motley original it'd be one of their best songs.

Well, yeah. If they could write like the Beatles, they wouldn't suck.

A few that come to mind:

    Ace Frehley: 2000 Man
Thin Lizzy: Rosalie (the Live And Dangerous version)
Richie Havens: Here Comes The Sun
    Uriah Heep: Come Away, Melinda
Chaka Khan: I Feel For You
Grateful Dead: Morning Dew (pick a version from circa 72-74, they're all pretty happening)

Unitopia took the best of Klaatu's original "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" and the Carpenters' version and made a strong, dynamic song that I've played over and over again. Sure, it misses Karen's voice but Mark Trueack is a decent singer and the track has become one of my favorites.

"Arf." -- Frank Zappa, "Beauty Knows No Pain" (live version)
