Actually, its one of the few of his albums I like (and thus own).
You are right that its not very rocky/dynamic, but the ideas are less DiMeola frygian cliches compared to his earlier albums.
The lack of real drummers is a major drawback, and the enthusiasm from Levin and Bruford on that 1 track is modest - they had to wait more than an hour in the studio before Dimeola showed up (Bruford wrote that).
The guitar solo on the title track is awesome!
    All imo...

This was the first Di Meola album I heard and got so I do have a soft spot for it although I can imagine the horror if you loved the kind of stuff he was known for up until then.

I'd heard amazing things about this but found it quite hard to get through. Maybe this will mean that it'll be more rewarding in the long run.

I had heard friends talk of Al Di Meola's chops before, but this was the first time I had heard him. Jan Hammer, Bill Bruford, Tony Levin and Phil Collins are onboard so it seemed time to buy on of his albums. The album was pretty lightweight when compared with all the talk about what a guitar hero he is. That guy is not here. It is kind of lightweight, but his playing is tasteful. You can tell that he can really play but not a ton of it is on Scenario.
