The fact that "Kraftwerk" already appears above it should have been your first clue that Krautwerk is a different band.

I thought that was strange, too, as I always thought of those as the same band with a spelling change at one point in its history (like Samla and Zamla). But it seems the story may be more complicated than that, and there may have been some rewriting of history over the years concerning the Schnitzler faction vs. Moebius & Roedelius. We'll just have to watch the documentary to find out!

Krautwerk are the two "Krautveterans" Harald Grosskopf (Drummer for Klaus Schulze & Ashra) and Eberhard Kraneman aka Fritz Müller ( electronics and vocals , one of the founding members of Kraftwerk)
They released a record in 2017
apparently there is even another band , a one man electronic project called Krautwerk

copy/paste from a newly opened PA thread: (thought it would be appropriate to post it here, hopefully Adele won't mind)

Cleopatra Entertainment Secures North American and UK Distribution Rights for Conny Plank Documentary Film
Los Angeles - Cleopatra Entertainment has secured the North American and UK distribution rights to the 2018 SXSW Film Festival Official Selection CONNY PLANK: The Potential Of Noise documentary.
The U.S. Theatrical Premier is slated for 6:00 PM on Friday, September 28th at the Arena Cinelounge Theater, 6464 Sunset Blvd. Lobby Level, Los Angeles, CA 90028 (323) 924-1644 and the film will run the entire week for a seven day engagement. In attendance at the premier will be the film’s Director and son of the late Conny Plank - Stephan Plank - and the film’s Berlin-based Producer Milena Fessman, who will participate in an exclusive Q&A session following the screening.

One of the greatest studio engineers and record producers of the 20th century, a world without Conny Plank’s influence on music is unfathomable. Instrumental in shaping the early sound of Kraftwerk, Plank would go on to work with legends such as Neu!, Cluster, DAF and Devo, eventually breaking through to the mainstream with the likes of Ultravox, The Eurythmics, and the legendary Scorpions. Conny’s son Stephan Plank, who co-directed this film with Reto Caduff, set out to discover the side of his father which he did not know, whilst at the same time, through interviews with such luminaries as Michael Rother, Daniel Miller and the late Holger Czukay, providing an appreciation of a man and his craft.

The 95 minute documentary also traces the history of Stephan’s father Conny through the viewpoint of the artists he worked with. It also examines the legacy the West German producer, sound engineer and musician left behind following his death at the age of 47. Ranging across progressive, avant garde, electronic and krautrock, Plank was also a regular collaborator with Cluster’s Dieter Moebius. Born Konrad Plank in Hütschenhausen in 1940, Conny died of cancer in 1987, leaving behind his wife, the actor Christa Fast, and son Stephan, then aged 13.

“I discovered his work in the early 80s when albums by Eurythmics or Ultravox, Les Ritas Mitsouko, Freur or by German new wave acts such as Ideal, Rheingold or DAF had the Conny Plank credit on the cover,” comments Reto Caduff via email. “Little did I know at that time of his earlier influence: that he brought Kraftwerk to the recording studio for the first time, that he was working with the band up to their “Autobahn” hit, and all his contribution to the krautrock genre and early electronic music. I only discovered really Neu! when the albums were reissued in the early 2000s. He really was a pioneer and his untimely death at 47 in 1987 only added to the legend.

“To me, the idea of co-directing the film made a lot of sense since Stephan could approach the artists whom he met as a kid in the studio (his home) differently than a regular documentary director. My hunch proved correct over and over again. Meeting the artists brought the memories and stories to a complete different level and enabled us to paint a very unique picture of this extraordinary artist behind the mixing desk. I also felt the timing was right since a lot of the people were still active.

“I hope we made a film that appeals to the fans who grew up with his music as much as to a younger generation interested in the genesis of electronic music,” he concludes.

I am sure Adele doesn’t mind, and I don’t either (she doesn’t have an account on PE). On the contrary, it is a great film, and we are happy that Conny’s work and life got covered by a film of this caliber! Thank you for bringing it up, Trane!

In fact, we interviewed Conny’s son for Part 1 of the Krautrock film, at his really cool, modern duplex in Berlin. He told us about his dedication to his father’s movie, and also touched on some aspects of his father’s work with Kraftwerk, Cluster, Harmonia, La Düsseldorf, Neu!, Moebius, and Roedelius. Conny also worked with many others, including non-German artists, such as Eno, Ultravox, etc. that are very well documented in Stephan’s film.

Don't know if a documentary has ever been done on Dieter Dirks, but he is still with us

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieter_Dierks

I guess he was also an interlocutor of yours as well??

Dieter Dirks was together with Conny the other Sound Engineer and Producer that we considered a must have for our film, given his enormous contribution to the early (and latter) Krautrock bands (and labels). Unfortunately, he declined to participate in our movie via his Office Manager, no explicit reasons were given. I haven’t checked if there is a documentary about him/his work, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is one, as he attained fame and great wealth, like very few other producers in the industry.

Nevertheless, serendipitously, we were lucky to interview another Sound Engineer and Producer of legend, René Tinner, who was a key person in the last period of CAN.

Over time, Kluster and Cluster indeed became different bands. I *think* Schnitzler continued on as Kluster (or maybe I'm thinking of Eruption, or maybe it was Kluster for promotional purposes) for a bit after separating from Moebius/Roedelius (and who were then operating as Cluster), and then in the 2000's reactivated the project with Michael Thomas Roe and another gentleman.

Roedelius clarifies in the film what officially happened to Kluster, and who performed in the "Kluster Eruption" recording. Schnitzler kept all the rights over the Eruption record, and he may have used the name Kluster while touring with Freudigmann and Seidel way after Roedelius and Moebius left.

This is the official 4 min. trailer of the Krautrock Part 1 film. Most of you are probably familiar with most of these artists.

For our interview with Irmin Schmidt of CAN, a large room at a famous restaurant in Cologne was reserved so we could setup the lights, cables, and the camera. When we arrived, about an hour prior to our set appointment, we were surprised to see that Irmin and Hildegard were already there. They were having a few cups of wine, and Irmin looked particularly excited. I asked him what was causing this (it surely wasn't that he was about to be interviewed ), so he showed me his Blackberry. He had been tracking an eBay bid of an Original, Mint, Monster Movie LP! The picture shows what the bid was!

Only 500 copies were made with this original Sleeve before being reissued. Whoever has one of this in great condition would be able to fetch thousands of euros/pounds/yens for his/her copy.

Malcolm Mooney, first singer of CAN has donated 50 limited edition photo prints (8.5” x 11”) of the back cover of the original 1969 album “The Can ‎– Monster Movie (Made In A Castle With Better Equipment)”, autographed by CAN members. This album is owned by Malcolm Mooney and it is the only known fully band signed first printing. The photo perk is printed in 130lb glossy paper AND PERSONALLY AUTOGRAPHED BY MALCOLM MOONEY on the back side! The perk's name is “Yoo Doo Right” (only $25) and (we assume) Krautrock fans would love this treat. Visit the live campaign here: https://igg.me/at/krautrock

You are right John! Check out a short clip extracted from our upcoming film "Romantic Warriors 4 - Krautrock", where Roedelius talks about Kluster, Eruption, and the beginning of Cluster. Thank you Bill. We are planning to release Part 1 of the film approx. in January 2019, assuming the licensing stuff can be fleshed out quickly (and the funds we expect to raise are available, of course!).

We have been working tirelessly on this film for more than three years. We have done the entire shoot of the film independently, and the rough cut is close to completion, all self-financed, without support from grants, sponsors, or making any concessions to the traditional film industry. If we appeal to you, it's to cover the post-production, the image and sound editing, and associated licensing costs, and to allow us to give you the film in the best conditions possible for video (and possibly, cinema) without any distribution restraint. We think the Worldwide Prog community deserves to have more films like this. Join us in this campaign at https://igg.me/at/krautrock and you will be supporting the absolute most important part of this film: getting it seen by the world.
