Google lets you upload 50,000 tracks that you can stream for free, no strings. iTunes Match is $24.99 yearly for 100,000 songs as a separate service or it comes bundled with an Apple Music subscription. Google converts EVERYTHING you upload to mp3 so make sure you use mp3 to start with. Apple converts all lossless files to AAC, but leaves your non matched mp3 and AAC files alone.
The IMHO massive advantage of Google Play is that you can very easily override the matching feature and get it to use your files in place of what is in Google’s library. This is very useful if you want to upload a specific mastering or mix of a given title. If a Beatles mono track gets matched with the stereo version, for example, you can right click and flag the song as improperly matched and your rip will replace it. If you have files ripped from an eighties vintage Led Zeppelin CD then you can have those files if you want them, not just the latest remaster. Apple doesn’t have an override function at all so if your track isn’t matched properly you are stuck.
