Watched Philadelphia - Tom Hanks, Denzil Washington, and Jason Roberts. This is clearly one of the finest dramas of this area. Tom Hank's performance was beyond outstanding. Denzil and Jason was equally impressive. I've seen it a few times but my wife had not so I watched it. Easily as gripping emotionally as the first time I watched it.

    Yeah, it was very good.

Not as flashy or violent as Good Fellas/Casino but it was nice to see all the boys working together again.

Yeah, for sure. I would have liked a bit more of a role for Harvey Keitel though.

Never seen it, but I know it's a good picture. I remember reading where the director said he asked Neil Young to write a song for the movie, hoping Neil would give him something like Rockin' In The Free World. Instead, Neil does this quiet, I think acoustic, introspective number, which wasn't what the director had in mind. So he goes to Bruce Springsteen and asks him for a song, same idea, same results, Bruce hands in a gentle ballad type number. I always thought that was kinda amusing.

^ Both were up for an Oscar for their original songs, too. I thought Neil's was sensational. I've never been a Bruce fan so I thought his was meh. Bruce won the Oscar. I thought Neil got robbed.

In case you guys missed this, there is a good comedy out on DVD called Destination Wedding. The entire movie consists of dialog between two wedding guests, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder, both of whom play narcissists. Very well done, and my wife and I found it hilarious.

    Overlord

I thought this was fun. A perfect little late night, over the top action/horror that takes place during WWII. Some pretty awesome visuals and special effects here actually...definitely a good size budget. A movie for the easily pleased

For the record, for anyone who missed it on Friday, TCM is rerunning the Pink Panther marathon, on Tuesday, this time, starting in prime time, 8:00pm (which means we'll get commentary from Ben Mankiewicz, or one of his deputies, this time). Be there or be square.

Here's maybe, probably, certainly a stupid question...do you folks streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime find one has better sound than the other? I have a nice 5.1 home theater setup and I'm tellin' yas...Amazon Prime always seems to have more punch. Maybe I just drink too much...

I've noticed that as well. I had to rewatch the ending of Last Jedi yesterday (because I am a geek/nerd) and then switched to Mrs. Maisel on Prime. It seemed to be an upgrade in sound and picture. Both were streaming through Fire TV so maybe Prime just streams better on Fire?

    I don't watch Prime as much and I don't have a 5.1 system so I can't really comment.

What I will comment on, tho, are two things that bother me:

    1. It seems there's only two settings they pick automatically depending on your internet speed: HD or SD. If there's some clog, for whatever reason, the service switches to SD. If not, they stream in HD and I know with Netflix it's 1080p, which is BluRay quality. I'd be willing to bet that it's the same for Prime. They need to give viewers a choice! YouTube does! I've seen many videos on YouTube in HD and when you click on the settings icon, you have a choice of numerous qualities, including 720p and 1080p. Why the fuck can't Netflix and Amazon do this???

Many people around the country, for whatever reason, don't have 100mbps speed (I don't) and there could be issues for people with slower speeds. I hate to sound like a broken record but this is important to remember: 1080p is BluRay quality; 720p is the same HD quality you get through cable or OTA HD and 720p requires roughly half the bandwidth of 1080p. At 720p, up to 4, maybe even 5 people could stream a movie with an internet speed of only 25mpbs. I've seen some movies and shows in 1080p that was hogging around 8mb of bandwidth. They really fucking need to get with the program.

    2. I watched a movie the other day that was only offered in 4K quality! That's UHD! WTF? I didn't have an issue but it goes back to point 1. Why no choice?

Yes, you drink too much, and yes, Prime has more punch to their sound.

Speaking of Prime, and Mr Klonk, I give you...The Scarehouse Fairly low budget horror flick. Two recent college grads decide to make their own haunted house
as a way to get back at some sorority sisters for what they did during their hazing. Nothing new here, but was still pretty fun to watch. Kind of a throwback to 80's style
    horror. I liked it.

We watched "Midsommer" tonight, based on comments I have seen here. Really enjoyed it. Definitely different.

I stream through my smart tv so I don't know. Maybe it's just a better app if that's a thing? At least it's not just me. Regardless, it's made me want to search more on Prime.

I'm in for two reasons :

    1) Sorority sisters.
    2) I volunteer at a haunted house every Halloween scaring people...while drinking.

It's definitely worth seeing! I think Neil's song was much superior and fit the ending of the movie perfectly.

Watched it for a second time on Friday, my son hadn't seen it yet. A great follow up for Ari Aster to the brilliant Hereditary. Much different movie, but a similar weird vibe to it.

Caught a couple more movies on Saturday.

68 Kill, A low budget kind of heist movie with lots of violence. Not great but okay.

The Green Inferno, Pretty disturbing Eli Roth movie about a group of activists who go to the Peruvian rain forest to protest construction and end up getting captured by a tribe of cannibals after their plane crashes on the way out. There are some pretty brutal gore scenes in this one. Worth seeing if you like that kind of stuff.

Could have watched a DVD last night, but "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" was on TV, so I watched that instead. James Coburn, Kris Kristofferson, and Bob Dylan.

Rewatched Taxi Driver the other night, still a good movie, but this time around had a bit of trouble with the ending being a bit unrealistic due to De Niro's vigilantism, and somehow being treated as a hero at the end.
