The Day the Earth Stood Still from 1951 is still one of the best sci-fi films ever made. Another sci-fi film from the 1950’s I will watch is The Incredible Shrinking Man. I can only imagine the horror I would feel if I had to fight that spider near the end of the movie.

See, I knew it would come down to something like that. Mannequin had it's moments (G.W. Bailey is hilarious as the night watchman, for instance), but come on! You're gonna put a romantic comedy (one with one of the singularly worst songs Grace Slick ever sang playing over the closing credits, no less!) up against a John Carpenter flick?!
And how can you top dialog like "Shut up, Mr. Burton! You were not brought upon this world to 'get it'!" or "Now, this really pisses me off to no end!", or "I'm a very reasonable man who's just seen some very unreasonable things!". And that scene where he stabs the...whatever the guy is, through the chest, using the knife strapped to his ankle, then he ends up in this awkward position, on his back, legs scrunched up, with a dead body leaning against his feet, and he's unable to get the body off the knife. And what about the levitating round, whatever it was, with all the eyes. That was kinda cool!

Just finished the newest episode of 'Black Mirror' over at Netflix. Today was the first day. Tttttrrrrrrrrrrriiippy! Very cool way of threading the storyline. Give it a watch as I know that there are those here that like the series. I'm going to watch this episode again before commenting further. A lot to absorb!

Watched it tonight. A family drama that morphs into a horror movie, but the best horror movie I've seen in quite some time. Recommended.
I saw Bird Box a week ago when Netflix released it. I thought it was good. Also saw on a news crawl later that they decided not to show the monsters in the movie because they turned out funny, not scary.
Also watched Black Mirror: Bandersnatch on Netflix last night. It's a movie about a young guy in the '80s who's writing the code for a new video game based on an interactive novel of the same name. Fortunately, shit gets weird, as you would expect with something related to Black Mirror.
The interesting thing about this movie is that it's interactive, too, like an old video game. At various points in the movie, you're asked to make a decision for the protagonist. And, yes, you will get different outcomes based on those decisions. I've watched it 5 times, I think, and have gotten three or four different endings. The good thing is if you decide to watch it again with different decisions, you can fast forward parts you've already seen... but only up to the point where you need to make a decision.
To give you an idea of how deep the interactivity is, Netflix lists the movie as an hour and half but there's actually over 5 hours and 12 minutes of video.
I think fans of both Black Mirror and video games would enjoy this; not so sure how anyone else would like it. And I must say that I couldn't help feeling after awhile that the interactivity is slightly gimmicky. Still, I'd give the filmmakers an A for effort and story.
BTW, altho the word "bandersnatch" was apparently coined by Lewis Carroll, does anyone else think it sounds like a German porn movie?

She might have been, it's been so long since I've seen the first Porky's movie, I remember little except Miss Ballbricker grabbing the one guy's...ya know, when he stuck it through the hole in the shower wall. For some reason, I seem to remember the second movie more than the first.
I forgot it had a PG rating, but yeah, that would have prevented anything in that regard from being seen. But like I said, there were a few funny bits, like Andrew McCarthy waking up in bed, in the middle of the department store, surrounded by customers who apparently think it's some kind of performance art thing. As I said, G.W. Bailey was great as the moronic security guard ("She's the dummy!!!!!!"). And I always liked the scene where they're riding on the motorcycle, and stop at the intersection, and the woman says "That guy's got a dummy on his bike" or whatever, and the old man says, "You're one to criticize!". Reportedly she did some sort of strip tease, ending with her wearing nothing but her Vulcan makeup, in front of a photographer on the Enterprise bridge one day. When Nimoy found out he flipped, and personally made sure the negatives were destroyed, because he was concerned it would "damage the franchise". You Were Never Really Here--Joaquin Phoenix plays a heavy for people that need a job done tracking down girls in the sex trade. I didn't figure out if he was officially on the books or working undercover or what, but anyway, sort of art film and brutal too. But I liked it.
Saw that a couple of months ago, slow, dark and brutal, I enjoyed it.

There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
I've always heard part of the problem with the fifth one was that Shatner directed. That apparently was the result of a clause that the two of them had in their contract that dictated that what one of them got, the other also got. The idea was, as co-leads on the show, if Shatner got a raise or a big dressing room or whatever, Nimoy was guaranteed the same thing. So, after Nimoy directed the third movie, Shatner got it in his head that this could work the other way and said "Look, if Leonard gets to direct a Star Trek movie, so do I".
I actually kinda liked the fifth one the one time I saw it. Not as good as The Wrath Of Khan or my personal favorite, The Voyage Home, but I thought it was alright. I love the scene where Scotty has the line about knowing the entire ship like the back of his hand, then turns around and cracks his head on the overhead and is knocked out cold.

I saw it a few months back at the cinema...a difficult watch. Impressive but not a film I could bring myself to watch again.

Watched Loving Vincent yesterday evening. Quite an experience, especially after seeing the Making Of.
Funny thing is that the movie ends with a cover of Don McLean's song "Vincent" (a.k.a. "Starry Starry Night"), sung by Lianna La Havas.
And guess what song was played when I turned on the radio this morning? Yes, Don McLean's original!
