I started it last night and so far, so good!
no tunes, no dynamics, no nosebone
I have seen the main three westerns: Buchanan Rides Alone, The Tall T, Ride Lonesome, and 7 Men From Now. I'll have to check into the others, I'd not heard of them. All of those are worth watching particularly if you enjoy westerns. I guess one of the other ones is Comanche Station, which I should take a look at. It's been a while since I've seen all of the above except for Buchanan, so they might be time for a revisit.
I watched it today. I didn't really have a problem with the end of the movie but I do think the movie as a whole could have been edited down a little. But not much.
I also thought everyone was good but the standout for me was Joe Pesci. I didn't think he could be that subtle. Harvey Keitel and Ray Romano were also standouts.
I also watched the credits and a few names popped out:
• Steve Zaillian, who wrote the screenplay. He's written a lot of good movies in the past 25-30 years, including some personal faves: Awakenings (a fave), Schindler's List, Searching for Bobby Fischer (another fave), A Civil Action, Gangs of New York, American Gangster, Moneyball, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.1
• Producer Irwin Winkler, who (co)produced Rocky, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Wolf of Wall Street, et al.2
• Nicholas Pileggi as an executive producer. He's probably best known for co-writing the screenplays for Goodfellas and Casino.3
• And last but not least, for original score, Robbie Robertson.
Not Scorcese's best but well worth watching.

The Good Liar - Helen Mirren & Ian McKellen - Psychological drama. These are simply two stellar actors, still able to fully deliver. At any age, two of the movie industries' top actors. The story was interesting, new something was up (see the movie), enjoyed the movie from beginning to end.

What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)
^ I had meant to ask if anyone had seen that one yet.
I'm super stoked about that one myself! Been really looking forward to it.

^ I think I know how it's gonna end, but I want to see it anyway.
Saw The Fanatic last night on Netflix...great acting from John Travolta, I really enjoyed this movie, reminded me of what Gary Green said to me a few weeks ago, "You fans know more about our music than we do"

A longform read on the veracity of The Irishman. I don't care, most of the time the best stories are made up.

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
Rewatched The Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood, still a good classic western.
Also Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaall, and it's still an interesting film.
"Dolemite is My Name" was a fantastic movie. The "feel good" movie of the year for me. Seriously. The positivity that the movie exudes from start to finish was really uplifting.
It's great to see Eddie Murphy back in form, he was charged up for this one. The entire cast carried their water, but Murphy just killed.
Watched "I Am Mother" tonight, a sci-fi thriller about a robot raising a human child after an extinction event. Fairly slow with lots of twists and plenty to think through. Pretty good.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
I only clicked on it because I thought it was going to be something more interesting...
Peter Travers has a fascinating interview with Scorsese about this film on his podcast, "Popcorn with Peter Travers". Scorsese talks about how different it is having a picture produced by Netflix as opposed to traditional production companies, and also addresses the controversy over his superhero movie comments. Travers is, of course, the long-time film critic for Rolling Stone.
We just watched this the other day too. I kind of wish I had looked into a bit more of the background of the movie before I saw it, as I did not realize it was a real story. I agree though, that it was a very good film, and Murphy was really terrific in it. Best movie he has made in a long time.
Wish I could contribute to the conversation at hand. I can't so I'll go with The Cabin In The Woods.
If I don't have my glasses on I can't read much of anything. I didn't have them on when I pulled it out of the outer case, which clearly states From The Creator Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer on it.
Ok, I'm a bit of a fanboi with Whedon but that will come a bit later. The menu screen of the dvd gave the plot away. Well, not the why but the what. There's a bunch of video screens and they have nothing to do with a cabin in the woods so government/corporate manipulation of the events. With just a bunch of slaughter mixed in.
I didn't pay much attention to the credits, at least not the names so I missed JW but I did notice Drew Goddard whom I recognize as a writer on Buffy. So there was that connection but I missed JW's name.
I think about two minutes into the movie I realized this was JW. Bradley Cooper and Richard Jenkins dialogue made me think of the Astronaut Vs. Cavemen argument on Angel and the sheer ridiculousness of what they are talking about which is so JW.
I so loved this flick. The Merman was a great payoff. Smoking a joint while knowing you killed off humanity takes the cake.
It's all a joke anyway why not leave it with a classic FU to reality? With us gone the ants will probably take over.

Absolutely LOVED The Irishman. Haven't seen De Niro give a tour de force performance like that in twenty something years. Pesci was outstanding as well. A modern day example of the kind of filmmaking I fell in love with as a teenager 30 years ago. Brilliant!
