Security Project interview w/Trey Gunn, Jerry Marotta & Happy Rhodes + KC & PG Stuff

    Hey everyone,

Innerviews has a new piece on Security Project, featuring interviews with Trey Gunn, Jerry Marotta and Happy Rhodes.

The piece looks at the making and evolution of this band dedicated to reinventing Peter Gabriel's most experimental work.

There's also interesting history on the making of Peter Gabriel's third and fourth albums, as well as stories about Kate Bush, King Crimson and Robert Fripp.

You can find it here: https://www.innerviews.org/inner/security-project

It's good to confirm that the new direction they took with Happy as singer was intentional, that they were getting uncomfortable with the limitations and expectations created by having a singer who sounded so much like Gabriel -- and toying with the idea of a female singer -- even before push came to shove. Personally, this was what sparked my interest in TSP.

    Great interviews. Thanks!

Great piece, as always Anil. It's a treat to read more about the inner workings of the first four PG albums, as they meant so much to me in my early musical development. And I'm also currently involved in a creative project concentrating on progressive music of the same era. I firmly believe that there's a need for that material to be out there in front of audiences today, and am working to make it happen in my little corner of the world. Thanks for the inspiration!

Happy with what I have to be happy with.

Nice -- thanks. They are an interesting band. I hope we do get to hear some new material from them as well.

    Great stuff. Thanks.

About Jerry hitting the drums so hard in the early PG-years: I remember when they played at Torhout in '83 Jerry smashed right through his snare in the first track!

Like Happy I also think she can do a lot more in this band: more emotion, more strength. Looking forward to hear that in the future.

I love what I've heard on bandcamp from the new lineup. Have they played any of the prog festivals or cruises yet? Would be a no-brainer...

Very enjoyable interview. I’d love to hear new music from this band. How long has it been since Gunn put out a proper solo album? (I need to pick up The Waters, They Are Rising album, but it’s not the same as a group effort like Third Star.) Ten years? He’s been a favorite of mine for a while and always welcome new music from him.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.

Just checked their bandcamp. They only have four copies of Contact left.

    Well, three now . . .

Agreed. Gunn was the most interesting player in Crimson when he left.
